Yes, the view here is gorgeous, but the reason for the one star review has to do with the fact that there are snakes in the grass area here. As someone who suffers from Ophidiophobia this was my worst nightmare. Kids just picked them up as if they were something to play with and show their parents. One kid picked up this tiny snake as I was walking to the prime lookout point there. When one parent told the kid to bring it over closer to me I instinctively said, “No need to do that. Please keep it away.” The dad then shot back at me and said they were all over the grass. That’s when I had a panic attack and ran as fast as I could to the Jeep. This was the last place I expected to encounter a snake. And please spare me the, “but they’re harmless, or you’re fear is irrational.” I’m well aware of that, I’ve just always been terrified of them and I don’t know why. I have never had a bad experience with one. They just creep me out. I know people are terrified of spiders, but they don’t bother me at all, most of them are harmless. My point here is that the National Park service should relocate the snakes to another part of the park, away from tourists and people like me. That not only helps me but it also keeps the snakes away from kids. If you’re not afraid of snakes then yea this place is gorgeous. But if you are, I can’t...
Read moreOne of my most favorite places to stop along the N.Cascades highway-it's an absolute must see in every season! It is hot in the Summer up there and cold come mid-Autumn/winter; can also be a little breezy or downright windy, so dress in layers/be prepared for the elements! There are vault bathrooms, picnic tables, garbage receptacles, and a pretty large parking area that also has longer parking spaces for those towing campers or RV's. The mountain views are breathtaking, and the teal of the lake waters below on sunny days is almost surreal😍! From this Vista, Thunder Arm, Diablo and part of Ross Lake is visible. Please be aware of signage up here-should you travel through during wildfire season, there will be extra signage, and a very critical one is that during active wildfires, drones are absolutely not allowed to be flown up there. I am actually uncertain if they're allowed in general, but have seen some folks flying them when wildfire activity is NOT happening. There are no permits needed to park here. This vista is BEFORE the part of the highway that gets closed for the snowy season, for those wondering about that. For the photographers out there, the mountain views coming back down the highway from this vista are almost better than at the vista itself! I cannot stress enough how gorgeous it...
Read moreA stunning lake located in the North Cascades National Park, around 2-2.5 hours from Greater Seattle. The drive is very scenic, and you can drive right up to the Diablo Lake Vista Point and enjoy spectacular views of this blue lake. But do make sure that you only visit this place when it's sunny here. That's when you get to see the lake colors. The vista point has ample parking (shoulder parking on the main road okay too, where possible), restrooms, and some covered lunch tables, perfect for a day-trip. From the high vista point, the views of the lake are plain gorgeous! The place will neither be too crowded nor be too empty, and you'll like it this way. Some 1.5-2 miles before the vista point (and you'll drive through here if coming from Seattle), the road passes through a section of the lake that offers access to a beautiful beach, where you may swim and go kayaking from. You might as well set up your base for the day here, given that the vista point will get done quickly. If you feel like hiking, there are some good hiking trails available here as well. You may want to check out the Ross Dam Trail. Overall, the vista point, along with the neighbouring recreational spots, is a fine place to visit and is highly...
