Great place to go cool off on those hot summer days. Fun natural water slide and the pool below the main falls has some jumping opportunities.
Bit of advice. If you’ve crossed racehorse creek and find yourself at the trailhead google maps provides, be prepared for an advanced decent down to the falls/pools. Young kids, elderly and dogs would not be suitable for this route. There’s one part of the trail with sever exposure and if you were to slip and go off it be game over. Many people use this route including myself but there’s a much safer way to access the same area.
Take the spur to the right just before you cross racehorse creek. About 150’ up this road there’s a pullout to the right. Park here. There’s a trailhead on the opposite side of the road that basically follows the creek in the forest up to the swimming spots and waterfall. Definitely recommend this route for people looking for the safest, flattest option.
Worth the trip,...
Read moreFantastic. Great little hike with big feels. I’m from the Rocky Mountains in Colorado and we have a short hike (shorter than this actually but straight up) in my hometown, to a very similar waterfall. Kind of weird actually. But the walk is SOOO different. The forest and the ferns and the moss… the sun was shining through the trees and lighting up the moss. It was spectacular. What no one said in the reviews I read was the road is pretty rough. You don’t need a 4x4 but there were some deep pits. We were glad our rental was an SUV. A lower clearance vehicle could make it, you’d just need to go very, very slow and pay attention. It’s not a place you want to get stuck for sure. So totally worth it tho. And there are no signs. Literally not one sign. We were just glad our maps were working and that there were other cars there before us to show us where...
Read moreKind of a hidden gem but one of the most beautiful natural areas in Washington. Last 2ish miles of the road out is gravel with large potholes that are easily avoidable if you pay attention and take your time. Parking is literally on the road next to the trailhead. No marking just a small trail opening next to a tree with a Discover Pass signed stapled to it. Just follow it until you hear rushing water, it’s not a long walk. Hike was a little challenging, very steep and narrow at some points but its short and it’s worth it to go all the way down. Just be careful because there are some serious drop-offs that can be dangerous if not respected. Had the place almost all to myself on a Thursday in June, can’t...
