MUST HIKE! (I’m in moderate physical shape and this trail was moderate to difficult for me.) If you’ve hiked Mt. Denali (Mt. Healy Overlook), this trail is an easy to moderate climb in comparison. Parking it right at the trailhead! Sign in roster at start. Extremely well marked for the 4 mile hike. Follow the yellow markers. Gorgeous views throughout hike with an array of caterpillars, butterfly’s, deer, squirrels, and lizards. Bugs were minimal and with bug spray, only had one mosquito bite. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this is NOT a hike you do with young kids. There are steep areas with drop offs that would easily critically injure or kill a child if they fell over. The trail in most parts you can walk two people side by side but some areas are a one person trail. Bring water and a washcloth for a sweat rag. Lots of areas to take your shoes off and dip your feet into the lake. There were 4 cars parked and I only saw two people off the trail dipping in the lake. Very private hike and maybe 4 or 5 benches along the way to sit down. Will for sure be back. Stop by the visitors center for any...
Read moreThis turned out to be a nice loop trail around four miles long. The trail is easy to follow with yellow markers. Some of the trail is wide, some narrow and rocky. I saw a review that this would not be good for kids. I saw no problem with it other than two walking bridges that were tall. Yes, they had railings. I would have no problems taking my kids out here. I would say this is an easier trail, some would consider it moderate. It depends how active a person is and physical shape. There are benches along the trail and a viewing platform. I would also say be careful for snakes in warmer months. There are lots of rocky spots. Plenty of spots to get off the trail and cool off in the lake. I would expect the average time to hike this...
Read moreBeautiful but difficult to walk at times. Sliding rocks and some steep terrain. Be prepared with hiking boots. Tennis shoes are not comfortable to wear. Bring extra water! I hiked this trail yesterday 7/16/2024 and nearly got a heat stroke. I definitely got heat exhaustion. This hike took me 3 hours. I am in decent shape. By the end of the trail I did the entire hike of just over 4 miles I was happy to find my vehicle. In this extreme heat I would not recommend hiking here. I have hiked here in the winter and the heat was not a factor. The terrain can get very technical in places. Lots of places for mechanical injuries....
