This is a great historical state park. The name is a bit deceptive. It really doesn't haven't anything to do with a plantation beyond farming (yes, I know the meaning of plantation, but this is also in an area of the south with a very specific understanding of the word plantation.) This museum focuses more on farming technology in the history of the area. The inside museum does have exhibits focusing on share croppers and even an area dedicated to WWII Japanese American internment camps (because that was a thing in the Arkansas delta near McGehee.) The other buildings offer an up close view to a cotton gin and a seed warehouse as well as a variety of antique and vintage tractors and farming equipment. It is interesting and educational and very well run and maintained. There are a few interactive exhibits, which my kids...

There is nothing quite like a state park like the plantation Museum to remind you how heavily we are invested in agriculture and how many changes there have been through even the last 50 years... The museum staff were exceptional we showed up on a cold Sunday afternoon and they were gracious and kind and kep the doors open and the building is warm for us... There is a real live operating cotton gin a display of all the agricultural different options that are available on the Delta... And many displays showing how the life of the average Delta resident has changed over the last hundred years because of mechanization automation and the tens of thousands of displaced workers...

Another awsome state park. I'm going to get the obvious out of the way first, it does touch on slavery and sharecropping. considering the subject matter it almost has too. but it's a very small part of the park. And the part i saw wasn't "preachy". It's mainly foucs i would say on old time farming. I'm not even intrested in farming and quite enjoyed it. The musuem in the old store isn't the only part of the park. For example there is a shed with some really old tractors, which is a must. I will say that if you do want the outside part, don't do what we did and visit when it's hot. And as a bounus it's located very near another awsome state park plum...

Visited Sunday 9/29. Enoyed walking the grounds and checking out the visitor center displays. However, we were disappointed that the park ranger didn't greet or interact with any vesitors. She just sat at her desk and stared at her computer screen. Perhaps her salary could be better used to employ a couple of parttime local residents who had an interest in engaging with the park's visitors.

If you are interested in learning more about the history of cotton and rice production in Arkansas, this is the place. Its an interesting 30 or 40 minute stop, and its right next to another historical Arkansas State Park, Plumb Bayou Mounds, so you can visit both together from Little Rock if you have a free 2 hours. Both are free.
