Eureka Trail — Attraction in Athens

Flat level trail on an old railroad bed that is covered with fine gravel. Smooth trail. Most of the trail is a charming scenic view of countryside and farmland. The old railroad bed allows the trail to be wide enough for pedestrians to comfortably pass bicycles and horses.

Beware ⚠️ there is no shoulder of flat ground. The trail itself is 6 to 10 ft wide with sudden shoulder drop offs of at least 1 or 2 ft. into the ditch. Which could be tricky for a young riders. 🚴‍♀️🚴🚴‍♂️

There are a few areas where the drop off goes from several ft. Up to as much as 20 ft down a ravine to Creek....

Loved the Eureka Rail Trail! Very nice hike/bike trail between Athens, Tennessee to Englewood, Tennessee. I biked it with a friend and we found all the geocaches as we biked along!!! I would suggest if you are going back the same way as you started that you start at the Englewood end so you can cruise back down, instead of 'up' like we did!!! It isn't too bad but you will definitely be going back up if you start in Athens (to end back in Athens!) If that makes sense. Still lovely,...

I really love to take our kids and dog here for an energy release! It has two large, well-kept dirt trials with more than enough room for horses,bikes, or just a family walk. Dogs (or cats. Yep, everyone loves this place!)must be leashed,and please clean up after your furry friend 🙂 They offer a handy pooper bag and trash can station at the beginning of the trial.
