This is a quiet and beautiful place. The water is somewhat cloudier, so if you are kayaking keep an eye out for underwater trees. They will be there if you going anywhere on the lake less than 20 ft deep. It does add a little more excitement to be paddling through the flooded forest. The lake is full of twists and turns, and makes a nice adventure to get to your camping spot, though walking in on the trails are just as beautiful. Deer, racoons, armadillo, and a few good size snakes are among the animals i spotted while i was there, But im sure with the almost 10,000 acres of forrest a few fat happy black bears must be enjoying there stay as much as i was. Ive been there a few times... Each time with a different mission. A great picture, a big fish, and chance to see and hear what it was like before we made the world boring and too dang convenient. Beauty can't be appreciated if pain wasnt experienced to reach that point. So take a long hike, dump into the grassy hollow boat ramp in your fishing kayak, and get into the sticks. You will find your photo, catch that 8 lb bass, and experience peace. Its up to you to get there.

My Boy Scout Troop used the NSRA for backpacking and hiking requirements for our our younger scouts. Very pretty area. Rocky Point is a great trail, difficult enough for young, inexperienced hikers. Good ups and downs. But nothing too grueling. The creek was pretty dry and many of us were relying on it for water. Fortunately we had Sawyer filters so we made it safe to drink. But there is just something about knowing you are drinking stagnant water 🤢.

Place is very remote, you rarely see anyone. In my six hours hiking there, i only saw 2 people. Since it is rarely traveled majority of the paths are overgrown and it is easy to get lost. The north and south rim are easy to navigate. Have a lot of water, bug spray, a compass, gps, and a map. You willcabsolutly need it. There are a lot of ticks and spiders in the area. I recommend the alltrails app for this area

I have been going nrsa for about 10 years and have seen a reduction in parking to the point there is very little space to park a trailer, yes I am an equestrian. The park staff seem nice but all you hear is the new rules come from “above”. Started with no problem with bringing dogs to camp to must be leashed at all times and now dogs are NOT allowed. Personally I take a dog with me on the trail for protection due to some wildlife is not so friendly (wild pigs, bears, I have even seen a wolf). Not having your dog with you affects not only equestrians but hikers like to have them with them also. It is a beautiful place but is becoming “unfriendly “ to the point I...

This is not the State Park area with facilities. Location is remote and isolated at the end of a 10 mile long, poorly maintained road. Check in at the main house/entrance and grab a map out of the box. Maps are somewhat crude but the trails are pretty well marked once you get out on them. I suggest you study a detailed topo map of this area before you arrive. Lots of elevation change on the property- this is not flat land. Some trails can be rocky and steep. Abundant trees provide good canopy and shade. There are bathrooms and water at the entrance but no other facilities on...
