My husband and I visited the lake and waterfall in late April for a quick day trip and had a great time. I love exploring waterfalls, but don't always love the extensive hikes it takes to get a great view. For me, I prefer the ability to get "in" the waterfall and experience it first-hand, which is EXACTLY what Chewacla Falls offered. We stopped at the first parking lot and the lake view was nice with a good atmosphere. We also appreciated the restrooms here. I wish there had been better trail maps, but luckily a family shared that we just needed to take a right out of that parking lot and follow the road for a bit to get to the waterfall trail entrance. Sure enough, the road dead ended into a decent-sized parking area with a pavilion and there was a sign for the waterfall. Thank goodness - the walk to the waterfall was only about 5-10 minutes! That's what I'm talking about. However, it was a pretty steep trek with lots of tree roots and uneven rocks to trip over. The waterfall was a decent size, but if you're coming with the hopes of seeing a huge, towering, majestic waterfall...this isn't it. However, if you're like me and prefer a short walk to an interactive waterfall - this definitely provides. It's a decent sized waterfall, with a ton of river layers to play in. There are a lot of (very slippery) rocks in the water that allow you to cross the river, with many other rocks jutting out high enough that they stay dry and provide solid footing. The elevation of the river area and formation of the rocks creates several layers so you can climb up, down, and around in a lot of different ways. If you enjoy climbing rocks (not rock climbing upwards but jumping from rock to rock) and getting your feet wet (or splashing around for more saturation) then you will absolutely love this place. You can definitely be entertained for hours. When we were there, there were lots of families, young teens who seemed to be there alone, quite a few people who brought their dogs, and even some folks who had hung their hammocks up. It truly seemed like a place anyone could enjoy. Also, for those who prefer a long hike before reaching the waterfall/rivers, there were much longer trails from the first parking lot that went around the lake and through wooded and rocky terrain, and would dump you out on the opposite side of the river/waterfall area. Again, it met the needs of all types of waterfall chasers or peaceful lake enjoyers and I would highly...
Read moreI was honestly surprised by the state of the cabin! They reviews before me were so great! I stayed in cabin #5 with my boyfriend. When we first showed up, we were so surprised about how great it looked! The view was great and the cabin was perfectly cozy! The kitchen was well stocked with plates, cups, pots, and skillets. ||However, things started to go downhill from there. Everything in the kitchen (utensils, plates, pot, etc) had to be washed. They were so dirty! Some on the skillets and muffin sheet needed to be thrown away. We accidentally spilled some water in the main room and that's when we noticed that the floor hadn't been mopped in a long time. Everywhere was dusted and swept, but it was obvious that there hasn't been any deep cleaning in a long time! ||We decided to use the cute fireplace. After double checking that the vent was open for the smoke to go up the chimney, we put a starter in the fireplace and got to work on making smores. Smoke slowly started to come into our living room and checking again by flipping the lever a few times, we knew that the vent was open originally but smoke was having a hard time traveling through the chimney. Chimney definitely needs a deep cleaning. ||At the end of the night, we just wanted to go to bed. However, there were bugs everywhere. That shouldn't be too much of a surprise as it is near the woods, but I'm talking cockroaches on the wall, spiders in the rafters, and all sorts of moths attracted to our lights. After attempting to kill most of the bugs, we hopped into bed. Wow, just wow. The sheets smelled terrible. There were stains on the pillows, pillowcases, and sheets. We searched for spare sheets and those were even worse smelling! ||Dead bugs in the lights, smelly couch, 1 channel tv, and slow plumbing.||Those are the things that stood out to me. At the end, my boyfriend and I just wanted to go home and get clean. Interesting experience, but wouldn't return unless there was some...
Read moreI pulled into the park as I’ve been told by many people that this is a place I should check out since I do not live in the state and was greeted by a disrespectful girl. There is a stop sign you come to before entering the park so I stopped at the sign, the girl came from the little booth and just stood in the doorway, I wasn’t sure if I should pull up or if I needed to wait where I was at.. the lady walked up huffing a puffing making a comment that I “couldn’t drive up 10 more feet”.. she goes to the passenger window and looks annoyed that I’m there and asks how many and I told her it was just me, she said it’d be $4 and I explained that I’m not from the area and have been told about the waterfall she stated it was about a 15-20 minute hike I decided that since it was 5:20 that I wouldn’t have time since the park closes at 6 and thanked her, she proceeded to make a comment about checking the time beforehand. Weird how I’m not from the state and was just trying to get some information how it was such an inconvenience for her. Didn’t happen to catch her name but she had long hair in a ponytail with an industrial piercing in her ear. Sad I didn’t get to go see what everyone has been raving to me about, but with her terrible attitude it doesn't even matter to me to go see anything. I get it you’re at work and are probably tired but baby I didn’t do anything, please check your attitude. I’m glad others have posted some photos of the park, it really does look as beautiful as everyone’s...
