Great place for hiking, biking, and exploring. Not too rocky, some trails are mellow while others can be steep. If you go in the summer, be sure to start before 9 or 10 am, because the temperature can get up to 100 degrees. This trail particularly at the start doesn't have much shade. There is great access to the south fork American river, which you'll see kayakers and rafters. Beware of horses, which are common, as well as rattlesnakes. If you want to hike many miles, you can take this trail all the way to acorn creek and salmon falls, which I recommend for mountain bikers (but it does include rocky terrain and steep, continuous incline).
