It is amazing to me that this piece of history still exists!! It’s an original, unrestored, brick section of old Route 66 - built in 1926!! You get to drive on this literal piece of Americana with no one collecting an entrance fee and no one telling you how fast you can drive. You really can’t drive very fast as the road is rough and wavy – but it is well worth taking a scenic detour to say that I’ve driven on a legitimate brick section...

One of the best preserved sections of the entire Route 66. This 1-mile stretch between Chatham and Auburn, off IL-4, still maintains its original red bricks pavement in excellent conditions. Why can't industry make roads nowadays that last as long as this road has been around? I remember this road as a kid (55 years ago) and it hasn't changed a bit. My family ancestors helped shape and build this thing way back when. A lot of history goes into this road. An outdoor museum that has stood the test of time and will endure...
