Easily deserves a 5 star review but I'll get to that in a minute, you will have to cross water to get to this, some say it's a small stream but when we came it was quite alot and the ruins were half filled with water. It must have rained alot or something recently but reguardless you can walk across the tops of these buildings if you use caution you'll be fine, there's 3 buildings close and one far out that we didn't hike to since it was late but it would've been worth it! We were exploring when I saw a man walk across the second floor of one of the buildings, we looked right at eachother but after looking around and trying to find him we realized that there actually were no people there so we high tailed it the heck out of there. So from having that scare I took a star away from the review. This is fairly kid friendly if they listen and can follow your direction, there's a bunch of holes they could fall through and stuff they could get hurt by but a fairly short distance to travel to get to this. Also seems dog friendly, although I do imagine theres alot of glass and metal in that water, which there isn't always water there so just make sure to have dog shoes if possible. While you're here don't forget to visit the Austin dam, only about 10 minutes away and another really cool ruins. They have many camp grounds at the dam and the volunteers who run it are amazing, camping there can be expensive but if you become a member tent camping is only 10...
Read moreReally cool spot with quite an interesting history. There is a sign that marks the spot from the road, along with a picnic table that we took advantage of to have lunch along the scenic byway. Very few cars pass by so it does not feel precarious being by the side of the road. There is a trail that leads straight to the old mill/dam, but wear appropriate gear- it is quite overgrown and prone to ticks. You have to cross a small stream to get to it. The old mill is forged of concrete with steel rebar. Parts of it are collapsed. We didn't brave a trek up onto it, but it does look...
