This is a great place for bike riding because as mentioned before these loops are paved and do not allow walkers or cars. I've taken the entire family here on occasion including my four year old with training wheels. Only thing you have to worry about (if you are on training wheels) are the advanced bike riders that sometimes go by quite fast. There is a white line divider painted down the middle of the road and as long as slower traffic stays right even this is no problem.
As mentioned by other reviews there is one steep but short hill on the larger loop that you need to work up a bit of speed to get up easily and there is then there is a longer slow incline about a quarter mile after this. The steep short hill is no problem especially because its so short. The slow incline gives me a bit more of a workout but its also not a problem in the lower gears. I have often road from home down to the veloway, then done a few loops to reach the number of miles I want and then road back home to make for a longer, more scenic route. I would highly recommend this for bike riders of all...
Read moreThis paved path is a delight to ride. The loop is about 3 miles. There is very little shade, so it can be hot, but there is a fountain where you can refill your bottle at the trailhead, and a shaded area to sit and rest between laps.
The parking lot is so small we don't even bother to try it, but there always seems to be a street spot available. It's busy on the weekends but never crowded on the trail.
I recommend that if you're driving a good distance to get here, as I do, you check the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center to see if they are holding an event, as people visiting the center will absolutely fill up the Veloway parking lot and all of the street parking in the area.
I love riding in Veloway's beautiful scenery with absolutely no car or foot traffic. I have seen foxes, snakes, rabbits, and hawks while riding. Highly...
Read moreGood for inline skating. I've skated here twice.
The first time I was pretty active with skating and I went all the way through. There was one steep inline up which I had to side step.
The second time I was pretty inactive with skating. So once I realized I was getting tired early I took the first cut through path to turn around. There was a very sudden steep decline that I couldn't stop well enough on. I fell on the side off the concrete and hurt myself pretty bad. Also lost my glasses which I didn't realize until I got in my car to drive. Wish there were warning signs or something. Not sure how I survived the first time. Anyways this serves as a warning to skaters.
I will bike here one day. I might skate here again too but only after some time of...
