When you think of Arlington, Virginia, Glencarlyn Park should definitely be at the top of your list! Not only does it boast beautiful natural scenery, but it’s packed with amazing attractions that make it a must-visit destination for families and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
Imagine wandering through trails that cater to biking, rollerblading, skating, and hiking, perfect for those who love to explore! You'll encounter sports facilities for every type of game you can think of, a historic train car that sparks curiosity, and a nature center that’s a delight for kids eager to learn about the great outdoors. There’s just so much to do!
And let’s not forget the playgrounds—oh, the playgrounds! The main one, conveniently located off Park, features both a small and a large play area suited for different age groups. The large playground has a charming forest theme where the grandkids can climb, slide, and swing to their heart's content.
But the adventure doesn’t stop there. As you venture down the trails, you’ll stumble upon a fantastic water park where kids can splash around and cool off on warmer days.
If you’re in the area, make sure to bring the whole family! You can drive, bike, or walk along the expansive trails to uncover all sorts of hidden gems. And for those who love outdoor cooking, there are plenty of barbecue spots with pavilions ready for those family gatherings. It’s truly a one-stop destination for endless fun!
My grandpups absolutely adore the dog park, especially the creek where pups can romp and play. There’s ample room for tossing a ball or frisbee, and picnic tables for their humans to relax while cleaning up is a breeze with doggie bags readily available.
The library, nestled among gardens and sports fields, is another highlight. It’s the perfect place to take a break after exploring the trails. There’s just so much to discover!

Paved trails for biking and running and unpaved trails for hiking. A stream runs through the middle of it and the paved path follows it for several miles. There's a unique dog park that has no fence. Its bounded on one side by the stream and backs to woods on the other side. I would not let your dog off leash here if you aren't confident that they'll come when called. Put the Glencarlyn dog park in your GPS as that is where the larger parking lot is. The parking lot Google takes you to only has a few spaces. Street parking is available in the neighborhood next...
Read moreGreat place to go with my kids. I usually go to the dog park first and walk over with the whole gang. The dog park is easy access and it's good to get my dog tired from running around with other pups. Convenient with a couple of small parking lots around because i need to bring kid supplies and the dog and the kids.
Two play places. A sand pit, swing set, see saw, couple of misc springy spinny bits. Lots to tire out my toddlers with. Bit hard to get to the top of the big slide as an adult though. I squeeze in, but I'm kinda skinny. Sometimes the kids need a big person to go with em.
Plus, there's a large pavilion for parties and lots of nature surrounding you. No vehicle...
