It's weird they want me to review Puget sound, there are books written on this subject. I live on vashon island in the south sound between the peninsula, Tacoma and Seattle, with only ferries connecting us to the mainland - no bridges. The sound moderates the weather. Such a huge body of water stabilizes the temperatures both in summer and winter. The clean water act has helped the waters magnificently, but the whales are in distress, Seattle dumps a million gallons of diluted stage into Elliott Bay daily. Vancouver is even worse I think they dump untreated sewage far out. There is measurable caffeine and pharmaceuticals in the bay water and consequently the fish. Boasting is really big both sail and motor, pleasure and sport. Kayaking, canoes with water trails and camping on shore. I've lived here longer than i've lived anywhere, mild winters getting milder and mild summers getting warmer, and if the caldera blows the ash fallout will be carried away from the PNW. IT HARDLY EVER RAINS, IT ONLY DRIZZLES for eight or so months per year. Going above eighty in the summer is the exception near the water. It fears but rarely hard, the snow is welcome and rarely stays on the ground. That may be changing as the...
Read moreOf course I'm slightly bias because I was born and raised here. But the Puget sound offers more than most places in our whole country. The list of things to see and do is so long this review would take me ALL day if I gave them all highlights.
Catch a ferry, discover quite beaches, hike islands. The surrounding forest and Mts. Give way for absolutely breathtaking views and heart stopping moments. The RICH history is everywhere if you like Museums for local history the vast amount found throughout the islands and coast line seems endless. Maybe make a list of light houses and start checking them off for family day trips?
Or military history of the area is also rich and deeply runs through the pudget sound. From old bunkers and underground pathways to meander, gunnery stations long abandoned. Old military installations ( housing ) you can actually rent out and stay in the buildings.
All in all, with a little research of the area and things you may be interested in, it holds so much in value if memories are what your after. The beauty up and down the whole of the Puget Sound is to much to put...
Read moreIts Puget Sound which Seattle sits smack dab in the middle. Did you know the first white settlers of Seattle first named their settlement New New York? One New York was enough, two New Yorks was too much, but three New Yorks would have Judge Judy saying, “That’s outrageous!” In fact the only city with the most millionaires & billionaires within our USA is NYC, Seattle is #2. The Beattles first played in NYC, but they held fishing poles from their Seattle hotel suite window to catch salmon right there in Puget Sound. NYC has the most towering buildings in Manhatten than anywhere else, but from Seattle mountains tower over the city directly from Puget Sound & just go up as high as 14,000 feet! Thats like 10 Empire State buildings stacked on top...
