Well, I went on April 13, 2024 and it was absolutely great weather for a spring day. It was about 7 o’clock in the evening in the sun had just started to go behind the mountains. The light wasn’t the greatest for photos but visually it was spectacular. What a sight for the eyes! I would highly recommend for anybody reading this to consider staying the night in one of the historic hotels found in Baker city B and then spend some time and I mean a couple days to explore. Take one day, probably a Friday to explore downtown. The historic buildings are magnificent and then spend a Saturday exploring along the Oregon Trail.

Visiting this site gives you a whole new perspective on the Oregon Trail. It is hard to imagine the enormity of the trek without some real-life visuals, and seeing the actual path of the wagon trains brings the stories to life. The kids loved it. If you aren't into the history, though, it is just hard packed dirt with fewer plants growing on it. There is no exhibit, or amenities, just a small parking area to see the old trail.

So fascinating to walk in the ruts and try to image all the people who traveled this area. The interpretive center is closed for remodeling but you can still access the trail. It is very overgrown with brush so be careful of wildlife. A very interesting stop and very close off the highway.

Great trail system. Fellow dog walkers need to pick up after dogs that do their business along the trails. And leash your pup when others share the trails with you. It's just plain curteous regardless of how friendly you say your dog is. Not good stewardship for those trying to enjoy our lovely resources. Would love to see this...
