I journeyed into the infinite desolation seeking enlightenment. As dehydration, and the scorching summer sun bathed me in radiation, I could feel my spirit tearing from my body. The smell of fresh bbq called to me, as I approached the solar power plant to watch birds explode onto feathers and vapor upon flying into the concentrated sun beams at the solar giga plant. My spirit animal, happens to be an inside out penguin, taped to an octopus dressed like Abraham Lincoln, riding on a unicorn. It promised I would not go 0-2 at EVO 2019. As vultures picked my mortal remains and carried them to the great beyond, The swirling vortex of cosmic energy, combined with the sheer kenetic velocity of the planet careening through space, and the raw now glowing, magneto sphere melded into a force that warped, and slingshotted my conciousness into the center of the galaxy, at many times the speed of light ,where the black hole , turned out to be an entrance to transgalactic teleportation system. Crystalline tunnels twisted, and stretched across a shimmering lattice, against the backdrop of nebulae. What I thought was an ocean glittering with moonlight turned out to be supernovae exploding across the expanse of space and time on a condensed timescale. Stardust collapsed into radiant multicolored columns, and formed humanoid figures on the unfathomable ,scale of gigaparsecs.the glowing grid of distorted spacetime left in the wake of Thier movement left trails of dark matter for galaxies to cling to, like a god walking through a cloud of smoke. The pillars of creation that were Thier fingertips touched the fabric of space tearing open a white hole, where light and energy poured into the void. One such figure pointed to a series of parallell glowing surfaces. Like lying on your back under bed sheets, hung out to dry on a clear sunny day, and watching them as gentle breeze made them dance. everywhere these cosmic sheets touched a blinding flash of light, and a glass like sphere began to grow. The expanding surface sparkled with glittering, energetic iridescence. It turns out universes are experiencing Thier big bang. It was a nursery of multiplying realities. As they grew, glowing tendrils erupted from them like rapidly growing ivy or tree roots. Cosmic Apotheosis.
by the time my mind and body were reunited, I concluded that the desert is totally stupid and nobody should come here for any reason, so I went home dissapointed, and have since become...
Read moreMojave desert is one of the most underrated parks that sits underneath the shadow of Joshua Tree. Most people don't really talk about it because it's not the cool thing around social media. Mojave desert is HUGE and there is so much to do. It has multiple places to offer. We came here and camped for one night....well car camped and it was perfectly fine and most importantly safe. It definitely feels safer than the city, that's for sure. Even if it is vast, photo opportunities for something different and unique aren't really present compared to what you can find in other parks nearby.
But it deserves a great rating because it's a lot more relaxed than other parks and there is not that much people around which is a definite plus. You have many different geological features from flat lands, sand dunes, red rocks but honestly this was the last stop after Death valley and Joshua tree and as some of you might know, both those parks have everything this park has to offer so for Mojave to be at the end part, it wasn't really fair.
If this is the only park you go to then of course you would be pleasantry surprised. I did go here in the winter so the weather was about 60-72 F which means it felt beautiful! This was in January if anyone is wondering!
Also be CAREFUL while driving on the roads as there are tortoises walking about and you can easily kill them on accident. And make sure you have a full tank of gas because while you are wandering this park, there are no gas stations for miles to...
Read moreI've visited a lot of desert places in SoCal. I love the Mojave National Preserve because of the geography and plant diversity plus the not-too-big-not-too-small size of the park.
MOJA has a little bit of everything desert: giant dunes, Joshua tree forests that far surpass that of Joshua Tree NP, plus gorgeous rugged rock formations.
I camped one night at Hole-In-The-Wall and loved it! Beautiful scenery, spacious sites, vault toilets, potable water at the entrance to the campground so I could refill my water bottles after helping a man extinguish his out-of-control fire... Please, put your campfires out on windy nights!
"The Rings" hike begins there. You'll even have cell phone reception because the nearby Hole-In-The-Wall Visitor's Center has a booster :)
Second night I (unfortunately) moved to Mid-Hill campground. I cannot figure out why this CG was so much more crowded than Hole-In-The-Wall. You have to travel miles on a bumpy, sandy, gravel road to reach it. The views are only so-so in comparison to the rest of the park.
There was a fire in 2005 that burned much of the juniper trees to further add to the uninspiring quality of this CG... Again, I ask, Please, put your campfires out on...
