Ballenger Creek Park is one of the best outdoor spaces in Frederick and easily deserves five stars. It’s a large, well-maintained park with something for everyone, whether you’re visiting with kids, walking your dog, or just looking to spend some peaceful time outside. The sheer size of the park is one of its best features—you can really spread out and enjoy the feeling of being surrounded by nature, even though you’re still close to town.
There are multiple playgrounds throughout the park, which makes it great for families with kids of different ages. The swings and play structures are in good condition, and there’s plenty of room for kids to run around. The picnic pavilions are a nice bonus—many come with grills, so it’s perfect for group gatherings or a casual outdoor meal.
The park also has paved walking paths, open fields, and designated soccer areas, so whether you’re up for a quiet walk or a more active day, it fits the bill. The dog parks are another great feature, offering separate spaces for small and large dogs to run off-leash safely.
Overall, Ballenger Creek Park offers a little bit of everything and is a great spot to enjoy...
Read moreI like the parks trails, cooking classes and playgrounds. However, giving a low star review as they recently planted nonnative invasive plant species, such as chinese fountain grass, which spreads into water ways, fields, and natural areas via seeds transportation on mowers/clothes, wind and water. They planted them near a water drainage system, so its only going to take a few months before they make it into the streams and ponds. Also, they planted nandina (heavenly bamboo), which is toxic to all mammals, including pets, and is known to kill flocks of birds. It also spreads via rhizomes so it wont stay nice and clean for very long. Nandina and Chinese fountain grass is spreading into our state, county and national parks and the only way to stop the spread is to not plant them. I'd love to volunteer my time and money to get rid of those plants and replace with native alternatives like winterberry or create pollinator gardens. Frederick County needs to lead by example,...
Read moreI've been to this park 20 times, but never was small children. I have noticed every time I've gone there to play softball, there have been a number of families and a lot of small kids there seems to be plenty of play area for them to have a good time at the park is way way more than just ball fields and a place for kids to play. There are huge areas for hiking, biking, soccer, and even a baseball field. The overall property is really really big. You could run with your dog here as well. It has always been kept up very nicely every time I've been there. They do have sufficient outhouses so that that need is pretty well covered. Basically, nothing bad to say I think it's all good. And it's really really big in case I didn't make that clear. As big as what you want, I'm not sure I've seen many bigger than this one. Plenty of parking too no matter which part of the park you end...
