We did the Ladder Trail. It was a good hike. But, the views are very similar to Cadillac. If you want to see more variety, you might want to try somewhere else. It is one mile to the summit. The first 1/2 mile is very steep. Mostly rocky steps. With a couple short ladder sections. This is followed by about 1/4 of a mile of mellower grade. In the last 1/4 mile there are some pretty steep rock faces without steps that you have to ascend. There are somen slick spots in this section at times from moss/water. Total time to top about 1:10 with lots of breaks. The views on the way up look at the back of mt. Champlain across the valley, which is cool. At the top the view is beautiful, but Cadillac is both similar and better because the lookout of both mountains face generally the same direction. We took Schiff path down to Kurt Diederich's Climb (steep downhill steps) to Kane Path (very cool) along The Tarn back to where we started. It was a good hike. Total time down: 1:10 Total loop time with breaks + lunch at summit = 2:45

June 5, 2021 Dorr Mtn Hike, Roadside Parking Sp at 1305, Sunny, windy & 77° Dorr Mountain via the South ridge Route along the Gorge path. Noticed a Luna moth on the trail. A mouth that only lives for a week! 1415 arrived at the peak. Windy, partly sunny beautiful day, a very long gradual increase/incline on the way up on the south ridge, mostly walking on granite pathway. 1435 start down the north side to hemlock junction. About 500' the trail changes from granite path to rough rocky trail. 1515 at the hemlock junction 1525 made it to the gravel Carriage Road. 1533 Jessup Path TH, checked out the garden area then took the Kane path. All boulders made into a path along the lake. 1620 back to car

A very steep trail up to the top of the mountain. About 1,000 ft of climb, almost all of it consisting of granite blocks laid out as stair steps. At least a couple of iron ladders. I took my golden retriever up but had to carry him up the ladders. If going for the sunrise, leave extra time as the hike can be physically demanding if you try to take it at a fast pace. There are plenty of good spots about halfway to 2/3 of the way up for viewing the sunrise even if you don't make it to the top in time. You will be rewarded with spectacular views that just get even better the further up you go.
