I live in Sauk County and am really excited to see new investments in the area such as Tumbled Rocks Brewery (Baraboo), Vintage Brewery (Sauk City), Driftless Glen (Baraboo), and Balanced Rock Winery.

I finally got to Balanced Rock Winery last night. It was dark and winter, so I didn't get to really appreciate what I anticipate is a really nice view to the east/southeast. The building itself has an architecture that is clean and modern, though perhaps a little spartan for how one might want to feel at a winery. The interior lights were on far too high for a Saturday evening, which seemed to make it feel more like a warehouse than a night spot.

We sampled three red wines as a flight (three of the four options), and all three were sub-par, and that's being generous. One of them (North Shore) was actually hard to drink. It tasted like sauerkraut (we saw another review using the analogy of broccoli, which isn't far off either).

I am pulling for this winery to do well, but I urge them to heed this simple advice: Until you hone your craft, please bring in a large selection of bottles of other, proven wines covering a range of prices. I want to visit your place again, but I can't/won't until the wine is better. No promise of live music or nice views at a winery is going to warrant a visit if there aren't good red wines...

Was visiting the Baraboo area from out of town and decided to give this Winery a try. Walked in and the place was quite full with just a few indoor tables still available. Approached the bar and advised that we wanted to order some flights and eats and was assured that even though they were hosting a private event, we would still be accommodated.

After putting in our order and paying up front (including tip) we were served our wine and then advised that we could not sit on the tables inside and would have to sit on the metal patio tables outside, which would normally not have been a problem, except it had rained earlier and the tables were still quite wet and the temp was 60. We were handed some small hand towels and advised we would have to wipe down our own table and chairs (which my husband did because we had no choice as I was standing there with my hands full of a flight of wine, plates, cutlery, etc. with no where to put it down). If I had not already ordered and paid I would have walked out.

Very poor customer service and the wine and food was not note worthy. Might I suggest in the future that the Winery highlight on their website that they are closed for a special event and put a sign on the front door because this situation should never...

This was our first time at Balanced Rock Winery and I have to say, we were very impressed! The winery/bar was very clean and well staffed and a perfect decor for the setting. The wine menu was very good and the flights are well worth and a nice change from just a standard tasting. Staff was knowledgeable and helpful and very friendly. We enjoyed the wine and the wine slushy was very good as well, especially on a 90 degrees day. We tried the Rocky Sticks, which was like a pizza frie and was excellent I must say, very impressed and the pulled pork nachos were also very good! Prices were fair and you felt like you got your money's worth. They have a wonderful outdoor seating area that is rather large with a good amount of shade on the hot summer days! Also complimentary water inside and out is a nice touch! The live music, Wonder Lust, was superb and we enjoyed it will sipping the slushes. Overall a great experience and we are looking forward to our next visit and anxious to try other wines and cocktails along with the variety of food options. If your in, around or coming through the Baraboo, Wisconsin area, please give Balamced Rock at try,...

This winery made for a great stop on a rainy day at the Dells. Our party stopped in around lunch time. There was some covered outdoor seating available, but most everyone was inside. There is a long standing bar where tastings are done. Another option is to pick your own three wines for a tasting to be brought to your own table. All four of us ended up ordering the street tacos, which did not disappoint. The portion was the perfect size for lunch. This winery also earned points with the husbands in the group for serving both craft and domestic beers. I picked up a bottle of my favorite that I had tasted and it was added to my tab before I cashed out. The building was clean and open. There was a part of the bar available to reserve for private tastings, two different bridal groups came through during the time we were there.

Wine selection is nice. They have dry and sweet wine options. I'm not a huge sweet wine fan, but I wouldn't mind sipping one on a nice hot day. Now that it is getting colder out, I like sipping on the North Shore and Edelweiss. Both have unique tastes and bring something interesting to the table with the different notes. It is nice to see that they are staying with a theme of cold climate varietal's, which are naturally sweeter because they are acidic and bitter due to being harvest from the vines early. Very informational tasting. Great staff and atmosphere. They opened this year and already have quite a a variety of beer, retail, and, most important, wine!! Looking forward to seeing what they have in store for the winter months and events! This place is a great hang out spot.
