Barboursville Park is a great, well tended, community and family resource.
A gated area, tucked into a little valley, it boasts 2 ponds (one, at least, you can fish in,) a football field, soccer field, basketball courts, softball / baseball fields, a frisbee golf course, tennis courts, a volleyball area, a splash park (in season), large fields for indiscriminate use, and numerous play grounds beside covered pavilions scattered around.
*I believe it also has areas for archery, atv, and horseback riding.
A flat walking track surrounds the largest pond - a perfect place for seniors to get gentle, low impact cardio while enjoying the fresh air and natural surroundings. If you're looking for something a little more strenuous, many hiking and nature trails are mapped throughout.
For a small fee, you can reserve any of the covered pavilions for private parties. They are set up near the children's play areas and most have charcoal grills nearby. There's even a nice restroom facility on site.
Located in the heart of the small town of Barboursville, you won't find a safer place to enjoy the outdoors. The police station is mere blocks away and you regularly see patrol cars slowly cruising past.
This is a public area, open to everyone, to enjoy...
Read moreI am deeply torn on my review of this park so I'll list the pros and then the cons. Pros: Beautiful park, just set into an absolutely gorgeous location and surrounded by hills and trees. The pond is pretty enough but packed with fishermen. There appears to be a nice walking trail around the pond. The play structure is in great shape and is good for toddlers (with adult supervision as there are areas to fall) and kids up through grade school. This however will lead me into my con. Con: The playground floor is just pebbles. Who in the world thought this was a good idea for a child falling from 4 feet or more? Rocks? Seriously, rocks? Who wants to land on rocks? This is utterly ridiculous. There should be a different material in the playground, perhaps recycled tire mulch, or a foam floor, or sand, anything besides rocks. We wouldn't return for the playground, but this place would be nice for a picnic or a wedding or older...
Read moreAwesome park! Small enough to be family friendly but we'll maintained, large enough to rival our state parks. It has a lake for fishing(catch and release- trout stamp required), a spray park, tennis/softball/baseball/basketball/sand volleyball courts, a riding area for horses ( hosts a rodeo - in season), hiking and biking trails, lots of playground equipment, plenty of picnic shelters (reservable) and an amazing disc golf course. The park is very well maintained, clean, safe (City of Barboursville Police and Parks Department patroled) and inviting...all amenities and facilities are readily accessible, not hidden off of the beaten path. The park has play equipment and restroom facilities for patrons with physical limitations. City of Barboursville staff is very friendly/helpful with reservations and special event information. The park is available in season for archery hunting of whitetail deer. Top notch...
