Not a beach I would recommend for swimming -- went at the end of June and there was a thick layer of seaweed in all directions. Also it's a bit shallow especially during low tide. Some locals will swim to Sampson's Island however keep in mind between Loop Beach and the island is well trafficked by boats, so I wouldn't suggest this as a safe activity.
Also the sand and beach area is VERY small. So during Covid it's exceptionally difficult to socially distance yourself here during the day and especially on weekends. Go during non-peak times like weekdays and after 4PM.
A good thing is that they do have restrooms for men and women -- plus a porta-potty when beach attendants leave.
They are very strict about enforcing the rules... so if you think you're going to drink, don't as they will inspect especially if they suspect anyone is drinking. Loud music or any kind of dancing will...
