Stone Valley Recreation Area — Attraction in Barree Township

The place is nice, but the equipment they rent out can be faulty and the staff knows it. They told us the chain on the pedal boat might pop and we should use the whistle to get help. It did pop less than 15 minutes into our rental. Almost 15 minutes later, the rude girl from the office with another helper came to pick us up and instead of fixing the chain as we were told they would do, claiming our time was over. I was in no mood to argue with teenagers who didn't seem to want to be there in the first place, and left the place disappointed penn state couldn't hire professional staff or train these students to deal with customers better. Great location to take a hike with the family. We were in the area for the day and decided to visit. We went on the lake trail which probably took me and the kids about an 45 min to go completely around (the wife was running but that's a story for another day). We were taking our time and looking at the climbing walls, high ropes, lodge, and of course, enjoying the great outdoors. Boat rentals open at noon. I'm from out of town and showed up at 9 am to rent a boat to fish with my dad. We found someone who worked there and asked if we could rent one and pay at 12 when we finished on the water. We were laughed at and told that the signs were clearly posted and said the rentals started at 12. Doesn't help much until you get there though.
