Cute little woodsy place. Went camping for 3 nights (Thurs,Fri,Sat) left Sunday afternoon. Requested an area near the restrooms and laundry, g got the camp RIGHT next door to it which was nice as far as no travel time to get there, but was also kind of lousy with the VERY heavy foot traffic all hours of the day and ALL night of everyone else yelling back and forth on their way past us to the restroom. The way our particular site was set (on Absegamis behalf) was faced near the road so I constantly felt as though we were on display for everyone walking by, there was no possible way to change around the site to face the opposite way due to location of fire pit and heavy picnic tables. Also, we were NOT notified the laundry room was currently closed down for awhile.
Bathroom/Showers - 5/10- cleaned once a day. Great if going DIRECTLY after cleaning, otherwise it gets pretty dirty. LOTS of bugs inside stalls, under sinks, in shower stalls (obviously, you're in the woods). Biggest problem I personally had was masks were supposedly mandatory inside restroom yet NO ONE seemed to wear one. Also if your of larger size as I am, the bathroom stalls are VERY VERY small, tight, and cramped, even just to close the door. NO HANDICAPPED STALL.
CAMPSITE- 10/10- location of site near restroom was our fault, as stated VERY heavy foot traffic. Decent sized lot, picnic table, fire pit with small gate atop for possible grilling. Site had to be raked up due to many pineneedles and cigarette butts before us, but was otherwise VERY clean and free of trash.
LAUNDRY ROOM-Unrated-Closed.
Dumpster for trash- semi-far walk from our location as I only spotted ONE dumpster location, but very short distance if driving over or located at another site. Area nearby was also very clean, free of trash.
SWIMMING AREA-UNRATED-CLOSED.
CONSESSION STAND- 10/10- Open on Fridays and Saturdays only (forget the times, maybe 10-12, 11-2?). Clean area, friendly young lady working register, many items. Items range from bit not limited to... FireStarts, Sunscreen, BeachBall, Beach Towel, Insect Repellent, Table Clothes ranging in color varieties, Batteries, many more items. Food wise- Burgers, hot dogs, mozzarella sticks, fries, etc. A bit pricey but paying for the convenience.
FIREWOOD-Unrated- Unable to purchase due to credit card purchase ONLY. NO cash.
PLAYGROUND- CLOSED. However is a small two-swing swing set near restrooms...
Read moreThe lake is nice so are the picnic areas but the employees are a bunch of racists from the lifeguards to the maintenance personnel the great majority of the lake customers are Hispanics and always being harassed by the employees in one way of another the fact that they close the gate after supposedly is full to capacity is wrong too there is plenty of space in there at all times even if all the tables are full they turned people around even if you already have people inside waiting on you and they do it with a smirk face and a satisfaction for ruining your day I’ll never go back to that place full of racists employees, green heads ,bees, sting flies, fleas and thicks I’m better off at the pool or canoeing down the river maybe is time for the state of New Jersey and properly trained the lake employees even add more tables for future seasons for other patrons that will still visit...
Read moreSo disappointing. I remember how hopping this place used to be but today it was nothing shy of a ghost town. I went there with my nephew today to walk around but left after 10-15 minutes. The woman at the entrance was really sweet (no fee to enter) but as we were walking from our car security stopped us for having a metal detector. Not pleased but whatever…so we put it back in the car. Walked up to the lake area and noticed it’s closed. Lake is fenced off and the nice sandy area is full of sea grass now. The playground area is gone. Bathrooms are closed as are the concessions but there were 2 porta-potties. 😩 About all that was there were picnic areas, grills, and garbage blowing everywhere because there’s no trash cans anymore either. 🥺
**From what I read however, this is only temporary as they are starting remodeling on everything at the lake this...
