There is a CITY at the bottom of the lake FOR REAL! 😮😮😮 It was flooded by the dam program in the 70's so houses graves u name it under water. When the congregation at Bantam was founded in 1805, the members named it "Bethel" and built a log church building, but the original structure remained for only a short time; the present church building replaced it in 1818. Substantial changes were made in 1867, although the core of the 1818 structure still stands.[2] The congregation closed in 1968: when the Corps of Engineers bought large amounts of land to create East Fork State Park, ALL area residents WERE FORCED OUT!

We went to the wilderness area and were not disappointed.. the main trails have been taken over by mountain bikers and makes for stressful hikes with a dog.. the area we hiked (between Williamsburg and Bethel.. by campsite 3) was wonderful! No bikes.. peaceful.. But a lot of very steep hills.. And a wide, rushing creek to cross.. moderate to advanced hiking.. My kind of style!

We enjoyed our hike very much. Visitor center has restrooms and said it was open until 3 pm. We were there about 1:30 and it was locked up. That was a bummer. Nobody was in sight so we never found restrooms, info, snacks, etc.

Don't swim in the water, but east fork us breath taking. This place has brought me so much joy over the years. There's shelters you can sit at and relax. There is a fantastic archery range ( on the beach side ) and there's a boat ramp if you're so inclined. This place is beautiful. Do mind the speed limit though, deer are known to...
