WSU-V offers students resources that they cannot find at other institutions. I can't tell you how many times my grades have been saved by a quick visit to the Writing Center or how helpful the various spaces across campus have been for studying.
Speaking of the Writing Center, it offers a wonderful social space to get work done while having a conversation. For someone like me, having a space where socialization is open but not chaotic (I find the cafeteria to sometimes be a bit too busy) lets me study at ease, though there are places on campus where silence is encouraged (such as a portion of the library) for those who enjoy quieter spaces.
Now, for a trickier subject; Parking. Don't be afraid of the parking fees here. If you're showing up 4 days a week for classes (I know a lot of us like having Fridays off) you're still parking ~128 days out of the year assuming you go for Fall/Spring classes. A red-tier parking pass for the Fall/Spring terms only cost me about $130, so that's roughly $1/day for parking, and you're always guaranteed to have a spot open because they limit the amount of permits they sell to how many parking spots are available. On top of that, parking fees cover campus services such as door unlocks if you lock your keys in your car, campus First Aid training programs and on-site defibrillator maintenance, lighting on-campus, and more. On top of this, the tiered parking system allows you to park in cheaper lots if you buy a more expensive pass. So if you buy an Orange pass, you can park in any of the gray, red, green or orange lots. I've never had an issue finding a parking spot, and I've only ever had a red pass.
I highly recommend seeking an education at WSU-V. With help from the financial aid office, college could be more affordable...
Read moreI'm a freshman undergrad just starting out at WSUV. I love the vibes, the campus is pretty, and the professors are great (sometimes they do misunderstand questions; we're all human here), and I love the availability of nature views and trails. I'm a druid (AKA animism, so everything is important and everything has a soul) and love the availability of my lifeblood friend nature. I am floating on scholarships and part-time work, because I can't afford $10,000 a year and my parents are still paying off their own loans from college, and I refuse to take out any loans whatsoever. So far, so good. My main two complaints are nerdy things...but I don't like that the Vancouver campus only offers Spanish for language courses (I'd like to have French & German at least, if not Russian, Italian, etc.) and there is no music class or choir or vocal performing class or club. I'm in the process of attempting to start a club but everyone is busy and I don't know any professors or staff to oversee the club so I'm at a bit of a standstill. Hopefully next semester that can happen. I love the Student Diversity Center, especially being a druid (and self-proclaimed "witch", which literally just means I manipulate the energies around me to help people and make people's lives hopefully happier and less stressful), because the people are very open and accepting and it's a judgment-free zone. The LGBT+ community, the people of color, people of all kinds of religious and social backgrounds, everyone is welcome. It's a great place to relax and de-stress, though for the distractible types (like me) not a great place to study. I finished a (fiction) story in the SDC and would love to spend more time there when my...
Read moreAs a bio major chem minor student I'm absolutely beyond frustrated with my experience. My advisor wasn't truthful with me on how long it would take me to graduate (off by 1.5 years), and the chem department is an absolute joke. The only competent department that I've had halfway decent professors in is the BIO department. I had a math teacher tell me I should just drop the class 2 weeks into the semester after I asked for help, my chem teachers have been so unhelpful and honestly rude, but they cater to the brown nosing students and act super nice to them. I'm feeling stuck and honestly pretty hopeless attending this university. Accommodations are hard to use for the classes I've had. One chem teacher makes her tests so that I can't take advantage of all of my accommodations. I have memory loss issues after having a transplant and she straight told the accommodations head that she specifically designs her classes so that students can't use a memory aid. Highly recommend looking elsewhere for a...
