A beautiful 'donations appreciated' area. The views from the lighthouse are great. There are picnic tables and the exposed fossil layer on the shoreline is one of the best I've seen. I believe that rock collecting is permitted but you might want to check for limits and regulations. This is National Forest Land and there are 2 dispersed campsites on the narrow road coming in. There is also a large parking area for bigger rigs that might not want to go down this narrow road. There isn't alot of parking at the lighthouse and there is no overnight parking at the lighthouse area either. The 2 dispersed campsites and possibly the large overflow parking before the road narrows are really the only options for overnight or camping on the National Forest land in this specific area. Worth visiting ! It is very well maintained and one of the better lighthouses you can...

We went on a Sunday Evening (about 530-630) and saw probably a dozen butterflies, and went back the next morning and saw about 20 butterflies fluttering about (didn't really pay close attention, so could've just been seeing the same few over and over. Around 10am when the sun was out and warming the trees they really started becoming more active.) The lighthouse is one of my family's favorites (our favorite will always be crisp point!), it is small enough that the kids can handle it on their own. The kids also enjoyed wading in the shallow water...
Read moreA pristine lighthouse way out on the peninsula. We were in a 35 foot RV and the road was dirt and gravel by the end. We parked in a turnout near the lighthouse just 15 minutes walk from the lighthouse. We probably could have made it all the way back but there were trees close to the road so we didn't chance it. If you have a smaller rig you should make it back with no problems. The road ends with a circle turn around so it would be easy to get back out too. I got some really nice photos and saw some monarch butterflies which this place is famous for. Highly...
