We were visiting from MN and this was the place I was the most excited about visiting. I was with my family (3-74yrs) and a few of us, including my mom, who's in a wheelchair, needed to go to the bathroom. It took a while for her bc she's crippled. While we were waiting we browsed the gift store and were almost instantly swarmed with "help." There was an immediate feeling of not being welcome by these employees. They even followed me to the bathroom when I went to check on my mom. At first I thought it was bc of my her scooter but she apologized for having it if it wasn't allowed. The worker responded, "oh no it's fine" which couldn't have been a more obligatory response had she tried.
I purchased a tour for my mom, even though none of the lavender was blooming, bc she wouldn't have been able to see anything otherwise. She had been browsing the gift store with my dad as the workers were constantly asking if they were finished and ready for the tour. Granted they were probably trying to be "helpful" but some serious training needs to be done bc it had the impression of just wanting us to leave.
So, we left the store and walked the property, which the website says is acceptable and free to explore. I didn't notice anyone following me but they came to the fields my sister went to, like we weren't supposed to be exploring but also didn't want to come out and say anything. After my mom's tour was over my dad was getting her scooter packed up. My sister and I decided to move our cars over to the additional lot as the farm was getting busier. While we were waiting for my parents, a worker drove a golf cart over to the extra lot and just parked behind us. She sat there until we left.
Complete and utter ridiculousness and very unprofessional behavior...
Read moreLavender Hill Farm is a wonderful and unique setting for live music. The Barn seats about 250 people, which provides for an intimate setting to see a performance. I was expecting folding chairs but they have very comfortable theater type seats.
They had an opening act perform outside of the barn on a small stage which anyone could attend. There is plenty of room to congregate and picnic while waiting for the main performance.
They do not have a license to sell alcohol but they had a few beers on tap that were “free” but suggested donations went to charity - Camps for Cancer Patients. They have a very large gift store that sells about anything you can imagine that can be made from Lavender. They have some snacks available for purchase in the store including Lavender cookies, lemonade and soda. All of the staff at Lavender Hill was very friendly and helpful.
Keep an eye on the weather. The Barn is not heated and the evening I attended it cooled down to the 40’s and was a bit windy. Evidently they are required to keep the main barn entrance open due to fire code. Dress accordingly.
I saw Sierra Hull; to see a musician of this caliber (along with her band) in such an intimate, rustic setting made for a special evening. Even if you are not a bluegrass fan, Sierra’s music transcends the genre - if you like music - you will...
Read moreWe attended our third concert in the barn on Saturday! What a fabulous night of entertainment! The musicians were phenomenal! The vocalist hailed from NYC talent and she was a talent to behold. Lavender Hill Farm always finds incredible talent! We can't wait to return for another concert!
Also... What an incredible place! Worth every second of your time to visit this very unique destination within close distance to Petoskey, Charlevoix, and Boyne City. Lots of property to explore amongst the lavender, friendly and helpful employees, and a beautiful gift shop with fabulous products. I was excited to bring home some unique gifts for my family. They even sell lavender salt and pepper, tasty! I also took a golf cart guided tour of the farm which was very interesting. I never knew there was so much science behind growing lavender and uses for it. Someday I plan to go back and participate in one of the many fun activities they offer. I would love to take the mixology class and attend another concert in their beautiful barn! And they offer belly dancing, what? I can't wait to return to this magical place! Thank you for a great visit! PS There are other pretty gardens on the property. The butterfly plants with monarchs flying around was a...
