Great (pay) place to visit. Of all the local area parks and sites, Split Rock Lighthouse was my favorite to visit. We went just to visit the lighthouse and associated trails. Be aware that it does cost to access the features ($12/adult and $8/kid), so attend with the mindset of seeing all the features that it has to offer. About 4 hours should allow you enough time to see the main features. The visitor center is nice and showcases local photographers and gift items to be purchased. There is also museum style displays and informationals. The grounds features the lighthouse and historic buildings. The lighthouse and a couple of buildings can be entered and explored. (Be aware that they dont want the kids getting to wild and climbing the rocks at the base of the lighthouse...staff will call out those that do not read the no climbing signs). I think the best thing about the grounds is walking down to the boathouse location and looking at the lighthouse from the lakeside shore. Nice photo opportunities are available in many places on the grounds. The rocky lakeshore is beautiful and is captivating if you have never seen it before. (As a sidenote climbing inside Split Rock Lighthouse is NOT critical because you cannot access the lookout deck at the top (you can only see through the small windows).)

Absolutely a step into history! We love this place, my husband took me once while we were dating and I loved it so much we returned a few years later and he proposed here. It's the perfect setting, the water was glistening, the fog horn was blown for demonstration, the lighthouse was beautiful and open to go inside, the water front was just down the steps, which is alot of steps but worth it. Some man noticed he proposed and asked me if that was what happened and I said yes it was, he happened to be a photographer there for another reason and offered to take a few engagement pictures for me! It was so kind! And they tuned out great for an impromptu photo shoot! I love this place, I am sad they recently closed the walk past the keepers house. I always wanted to volunteer to be a keeper for a year. We would love to be part of history and preserve its life! We return every couple years from Illinois. If you come for vacation stay at the northern rail train car suites! It's just up the road and Absolutely the coolest hotel, we laugh and say someday we will take over for the owners when they retire. Come visit this amazing piece of history. The lake air will do everyone good I promise!

it's way up on an unclimbable rock above the water rock must be idk 125 to 200ft tall estimate the lighthouse being maybe 30 to 40ft tall it sure is pretty when nobody around but very popular with crowd's around most of the time seeing it running from the water would be so good... of i had a boat that could handle the waves 🌊 cause they're so big they're surfable into the dangerous stopping point of immovable object 🪨 definitely worth the price though i support it So others can enjoy it many many thousands of years down the road too... don't think 🤔 it was running/lit while I was there sadly.... wanna see it's motors and light source be squirrel 🐿️ cage wind 🌬️🍃 and solar powered even solar steam powered would be awesome hiding out in the woods unobtrusively with highly efficient brushless motors etc stepper or whatever if i could buy this historical landmark i totally would just somebody win me the lottery so i have somewhat unlimited funds to care for it properly 🙏🏻🥰 the only reason to give it a lower/0 star is to hide it from the public reserving it for those that know it's true beauty in nature🌲🍁🎄🧗🏻 but it wouldn't be honest then

This place is great, especially if you love learning about history. There is an entry fee, but it is affordable and absolutely worth it in my opinion. I also appreciated that they were open until 6PM on a weekday! I would say you can cover everything in about 1 hour, maybe a little longer if you want to spend more time or if you have kids. The lighthouse and the keeper's house are beautifully restored with lots of informative and interesting reads. Also plenty of staff around that are very nice, helpful and well-informed. The interior museum was great as well. There's a short movie that runs every 10-20 minutes. The gift shop is about what you'd expect, but I also appreciated they had a collection of artwork from local artists available for purchase. And I almost forgot to mention the stunning views of Lake Superior! I'd definitely recommend making a stop here if you're nearby and have an hour to kill. It's right off the highway and very convenient.

$12 entry fee is worth it. There is a 15 minute movie presentation if you'd like to watch before touring the lighthouse. I thought it would be a projector screen in a room with a few chairs but it was more like a 100 seat professional movie theater. The whole facility is top-notch. We learned a lot like there were no roads when the lighthouse was built they had to hoist everything up from ships down below. They have some nearly 100-year-old film of it being built. Well worth watching. We toured one of the four houses built for the staff and Lighthouse keepers. Lots of original household goods, clothing, writings Etc from the 1930s still on the shelves. The lighthouse speaks for itself, they go into great detail in the movie of just how unique and special the French designed Lighthouse Lens is. You can take the spiral stairs all the way to the top. We took our time and were in and out in a little under an hour.

Visiting Split Rock Lighthouse in the winter with our young family was an unforgettable experience! Even though there wasn’t any snow, the cold, crisp air and the stunning views of Lake Superior created a serene and peaceful atmosphere. The lighthouse stands majestic against the winter backdrop, making it a perfect spot for photos and a chance to experience Minnesota’s history. Our kids, ages 6 and 4, enjoyed exploring the grounds and learning about the lighthouse’s history. The staff were welcoming and made the visit engaging for all ages. The visitor center exhibits added an extra layer of depth to the experience. Despite the chill, we had a fantastic time. Be sure to dress warmly and plan to take your time soaking in the beauty of the area. Visiting Split Rock Lighthouse in the winter is a must for families looking for a unique and memorable outing!
