Our experience was somewhat disappointing. The Punkin-Chunkin event as well as seeing the giant trebuchet was fun . However, in Crafters Alley, only 2 docents were presenting in their shops. Historical interpreters were not in ALL the historic buildings to explain life in the Great Depression as advertised so one was left to their own interpretation. There were many historical items just left where they were dumped to weather the elements. Many of the out buildings displayed rusty, unnamed, depression era equipment and tools; with some inaccessible out buildings piled high with old items visible through windows. The most disappointing part was seeing the neglected animals in the barn. Though there was only sunlight to view the knee-high piled manure at the fence of the pony enclosure, two unshorn sheep that appeared uncomfortable and dirty, and a hog lying mostly covered by hay and appeared to be shivering, it was sad. With the adult admission of $10 per head on this very busy Saturday, it was disappointing there weren't more interpreters to explain the history of the farm equipment, tools, etc., and the barn animals weren't tended to in a better manner. Wellington Farm Park could really be a great, educational experience with more effort and planning, but it remains the disappointment it was when we first visited nearly...
Read moreI heard from 9&10 news and Facebook about how great this place was...let me tell you,we were not impressed in the least! First off the entry price($55.00 for 2 seniors,2 adults and two students) is ridiculous for what they have to offer...we went specifically for the "pumpkin chunkin"..that was a joke! They toss two pumpkins every 30 minutes and if they flew more than 30',I would be totally surprised! What a huge let down for us and the grandkids. I would caution you also to eat before you get there... $13 for a brat or burger and $3.00 for a can of pop is nuts! We were going to get cider and doughnuts while there... $2.00 for an 8oz Dixie cup of cider and $2.00 for a small doughnut... a gallon of cider is $7...they are making $38.00 off a gallon of cider! Save your money and go to the Houghton lake historic village...it's a lot more interesting and enjoyable and plenty of awesome...
Read moreWe took a Harley ride for a color tour and to intentionally stop here at Wellington Farm. It was a GREAT day. and the wife (sorry forgot her name) gave us the tour of the land. She was wonderful, full of knowledge and laughter. We giggled a lot and learned a lot. We were accompanied or shared the tour with a pair of sisters, who were equally as sweet and enjoyable. IF you get the chance, and have the time, to take the tour....if your interested in history. and like antiques and the preservation of place and time....go there. You will enjoy!! the church was beautiful, broom making shed, the wood mill....it was all great. the grist mill. the Outdoor kitchen was 2nd to the church. there is a toboggan launch/ barn...what a hoot that would have been. THANKS...
