Great hiking area, as it's very calm and relaxing. The Historic Quarry and Forest is open year round, dawn to dusk, and admission is free to the public. During the time between Memorial Day and Labor Day, they will collect a parking fee of $10 per car per day. The Quarry is open from dawn to dusk.  However, during the time they are collecting parking fees, no cars are permitted in the lot after 7 PM.

The quarry, which was known during its operating days as the Chester-Hudson Quarry, played a vital role in the early development of the Town of Becket and the surrounding area. Granite from this quarry was used for monuments in many states. The quarry was operational from the 1860’s to the 1940’s.

When the quarry was abandoned, much of the equipment and structures were left just as they were. The site has stayed the same, until now. You can go and check it out and walk among the abandoned equipment and structures. Just be careful, don't climb on anything as it is rusty, and fragile from wear and tear from Mother nature. You can also go swimming in the quarry in the summer, just no diving as it's dangerous for...

DONT GO HIKING HERE- the trails are some of the most poorly maintained trails I've ever experienced, its very easy to get lost, there is 3 different maps spread around the area, the same trails have different names on every map and take different routes and the colors are different, it is completely confusing. it feels like they are purposely trying to mess with you and challege you. you'll be walking on one trail and it has a white blaze, then out of nowere its green, some blazes are hidden in spots you cant even see from trail, then youll see 2 signs with different names pointing tawards the same trail, on top of it they are all overgrown and covered with fallen trees and brush. Im an avid hiker and at points i was scared because i thought i was lost in the woods all night, eventully i had to use gps to get out. I've been to trails in parks that were literally abandoned that were more manageable then these are. They really have ALOT of nerve charging you $10 to park here when they do zero maintenance, what are they spending the money on besides cleaning the portapotty...

This is a great little hike in terms of the overall scenery, and the level of difficulty is suitable for younger children. You might want to be a little careful near the staircases and some of the other places directly adjacent to the Quarry. This scenery itself in the hike would earn five stars, the drawback is that the place is a mess, late night partiers and people in general leave their trash everywhere in the area adjacent to the Quarry- there are beer bottles, left behind clothing, and trash everywhere surrounding the Quarry.. If you go on a weekend morning, you will have to remind your kids and yourself to be careful of stepping on broken glass that may have been there from party-goers evening before.. Once you are away from the Quarry area and on the other Trails it's a beautiful, peaceful hike..

If you go on a warm summertime morning, be sure to bring plenty...
