I I took my granddaughters and grandson (visiting for the summer) on the tour as I was trying to find different things for them to experience. The young man at the ticket booth was very nice and informative. During our short wait, my grandchildren panned for gemstones. It was pre-filled bags and was a okay experience for the money. The tour guide was nice and provided a lot of information. The tour itself was interesting. Then it all went south. We returned to the boat dock and the guide was letting people off the boat. There was two rows of back to back seating. We were seated on the left side. She escorted the right side off first and as each person got off our side began to sink lower and lower. She then gave us a look indicating we could now get off. We started to stand up. At the same time the last two people on the right side we’re getting off the boat. The guide said, and I quote, “actually I’m going to need you to stay on to balance the boat”. They agreed and walked back to the middle and sat down. When they sat the boat literally bounced back up on our side causing us to lose balance and my granddaughter, who had been taking pictures, phone when flying out of her hands and into the water. (By the way initially the boats were so close that the phone would have fallen to the floor but because the boat was so I unleveled it went into the gap). We immediately asked the guide if we could attempt to retrieve the phone as it is water repellent and would probably survive for a minute or so. Also since she said on the tour the water was about 4 feet my grandson was willing to go in at get it. I asked her if she could move the boat back. She seemed very concerned about getting the other people situated and I did not want them to wait so we walked back to the center with the group. After returning I asked again about retrieving the phone explaining that I could call it and it would light up. She said there was no service in that area but I told her I had service there and could we at least try. She said she had to check with her manager. Then came back and said the manager said the water was too murky. The light from the phone might not have been bright but I’m sure it would have exposed it’s location. With the cost of phones (this was a Iphone 12) there is no way I wouldn’t have let my customer at least try to see if the phone could be retrieve, especially since it was dropped due to the guides actions. Also a manager should have addressed me directly. I left there very disappointed as what was going to be an enjoyable time ended up being a...
Read moreIt was the day before mine and the wife's 30th anniversary and I was looking for something fun and different to do. Enter Bluespring Caverns Park.
So on our Anniversary Eve I told her what time we needed to get up and what time we needed to leave to make the drive from Louisville to the park. She had no idea where we were going. When we pulled in to the parking lot she said "Well, this looks fun!".
We were fortunate enough to arrive about 10:45 am and were the last two booked for the 11:00 tour. The entre fee is around $25 per person, but being a Veteran I was able to get a $4 discount (I'm also told that the Veteran discount is the only discount they offer any more).
The tour starts with a walk down a hill that I couldn't help but think would be GREAT on a sled in the winter. It's a helluva walk (both down and up), but VERY scenic. As you descend you can feel the air cool. On a 90° degree day it felt REALLY nice.
Once you're down to the bottom you board a boat and start the tour. Sam was our tour guide and he was Most Excellent. Sam has been doing tours at Bluespring Cavern for about 9 years and he shared all kind of facts and trivia during out tour. As I recall our tour was about 5/8 of a mile at a very leisurely pace.
Caverns are such amazing, wonderful places. They're their own little, secret underground world. No matter how many I my brain goes into overdrive trying to imagine how it was hundreds/thousands of years ago, how incredibly still and quiet it must be when empty, and how completely isolating they can be.
Sam educated us as we went along and entered different "rooms" in the cavern, giving us history and safety tips (DO NOT drink the water) along the way. We even got to see a few bats on our journey.
Our boat tour got over a lot sooner than I expected, then it was time to walk back up the hill I think it'd be a blast to sled down. No worries, I'm in pretty good shape.
A quick visit to the gift shop and we were on our way. (I added another shot glass to my collection of over 700).
We did the boat tour, but they also offer kayak tours and have an overnight room where groups can actually sleep overnight in the cavern. That would be SO freakin' cool!
The staff was friendly and funny, the tour was great, and the gift shop wasn't overdone or kitschy.

Read moreRecently moved to Indiana and on my days off I crave adventure. I happened to stumble upon Bluesprings Caverns and said...”why not?” It was about an hour and a half drive from Indianapolis, first off... the drive is absolutely beautiful. Second, I “roll up” and I’m greeted with a super beautiful and homey building. I would maybe recommend a map outside of building along with some rocking chairs on your porch but what do I know :) Third, the nature trail was great. It was a fun little trail that was easy and serene. Couple steep slopes but I actually walked it twice because why not? You are able to walk around and take a look at the largest sinkhole in the state which leads into the cave. My camera loved it. Fourth, when the tour was ready to begin they lead us down to the boat dock... it was myself and an older couple plus our boat guide. He was very informative and passionate... he stopped along the entry explaining what was around us and the history behind the caverns. We were lead down to the ramp and escorted into the boat... the cave was breathtaking. Hard to take everything in at once! The formations were incredible and the walls and feeling was indescribable. He would stop and allow photos as well as making it a huge point to respect the caverns. Very well kept and for my first cavern experience.... it was absolutely worth it. Had to save the best for last.... the staff.... the staff was absolutely amazing. I walked in the doors as I was greeted by an absolutely handsome and intelligent man who immediately explained what I could do and what the park was about. I had about 40 min until the next tour, I sat and talked to the 3 young men who were just so knowledgeable and passionate about what they were doing. I wish I would have got their names. One had long hair with glasses, other small pony with a great mustache and then a young one who would keep making short jokes about himself while giving the boat tour. It was so amazing to see the passion they had for their job... the conversation was absolutely great and I will certainly be back with a group of not for the boat ride... it’ll be to hang with those guys again! Very well out together!! 10 stars...
