Do not attempt to go to Fairy Lake when it is cold and rainy unless your vehicle is four-wheel drive (even then I think that is a risk), because the "road" to get there is absolutely terrible (as of June 2018). Do not bring a four-door sedan rental car here like we did - the road caused damages to our vehicle that we had to pay for later. (NOTE: We didn't have a problem in any of the other parks in Montana - most of them had roads that were well kept). I suggest you do not take a rental out here even if it is four-wheel drive.
Fairy Lake's road is NOT well kept. The road is mostly dirt/gravel and has deep ruts and potholes all throughout, and its condition worsens the further up you drive, and it becomes narrower, so that only one car can fit through at a time.
Also, I recommend not going to Fairy Lake when it is misty, raining, and cold because that same road becomes even worse - it becomes sloshy and muddy and has very little traction, which feels pretty dangerous as you drive next to the cliff sides. We cut our losses and turned around with still have the distance to go. MAKE SURE you check the weather before you go and that your chosen vehicle that can...

It’s such a peaceful escape, and the beauty of the snow makes it even...

There is a path around the...
