I was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. Currently resident of Lead/Deadwood/Spearfish area since 2002. I was in Belle one day and I seen the sign indicating the marker. I set GPS and it took me there. Something just didn't sound or look right. It was this all pretty kept area. Flag poles and well kept grass and sidewalks. From what I remember this was a like 4x4 marker back in the day. The old man volunteer working there told me the story of the of the original true marker and where it was located. Read moreOff the beaten path and easy to miss. Watch for the flagpole in the farmland and monitor your odometer to make sure that you're watching for the site at the right time. There is a small pathway through a gate in the fence and you can walk to the flag to take pictures. The expanse is beautiful and standing in the geographic center seems important, five stars for that reason alone. Easy gravel road to drive sow to the entrance to the property. It's a bout a 50 yard walk through wild grasslands then you are there. Pretty simple, but simply beautiful once you get there.
