Ok folks, so late Sunday night I found myself going through Belle Fourche SD On my way to Seattle and I stopped in to one of the truck stops in town for a drink. As I was walking around the store I happened upon a dozen eggs that said AJ Farms on it. Now, I've bought local eggs before and I've found them to be 50/50. Some good, some not so good. But, local usually means fresh so I tool a look. These were very large almost jumbo eggs, obviously fresh and you could tell they were free range by the assortment of colors. Brown, tan, off white and one white. At this point I'm intrigued to say the least so I bought them. Let me say that I am a brown egg guy. But these really peaked my interest. The rest of my trip to Seattle I was thinking about them and wondering if they were going to be good. Yesterday I found out..... After heating up my skillet and cracked the first one. The white was thick and substantial, and the yolk was a beautiful marigold yellow. Impressive. The second one was just the same, as was the 3rd and 4th. Consistency being key, these did not disappoint. Gorgeous large eggs. The aroma of them cooking was delightful and they cooked up so evenly. Flipped them once for a minute or two and viola, perfect over medium eggs. Whites done, yolks runny. At first bite they're absolutely delicious. Substantial, flavorful. Imagine the perfect fried egg sandwich. When you bite into it you actually taste the whites along with that glorious rich yolk. So satisfying, and truly refreshing to finally get an egg that tastes fresh from the farm. My hats off to your hens and your farm. You obviously have the secrets to great tasting eggs that every egg lover should have the pleasure of eating. So you truckers or travelers that cook on the road like I do, and you're going through Belle Fourche SD, take a moment to visit this beautiful little town, and get yourself some of these fantastic eggs from AJ Farms. You will not be...
Read moreAJ Farms is a great place to visit. Alicia and Joe provided a warm welcome on a cool day. I was shown their greenhouse, large chicken coup toured the cropland.
Chickens roamed the farm, along with a few cats. The chickens produce eggs of all colors, and they were delicious. The farm grows sunflowers, carrots, beets, peppers, tomatoes and more.
The farm also offers really cool experiences. Agritourism is a part of their operation and people can visit during the growing season to learn and experience life on the farm. With plans for brightly colored flowers (and sunflowers) to grow throughout the summer, the farm offers great photography. One sunflower must have been over 8 feet tall.
Alicia and Joe are obviously hard workers and care about what they produce. The vegetables are grown without pesticides, and the animals are much loved. Many of the goats were pregnant during my visit and I can't wait to go back and see the newborns. They even mentioned Goat Yoga which I'm going to have to see.
Thanks Alicia and Joe for the great tour and I look forward to...
