Awesome! Spent two hours during opening weekend exploring the exhibits. Detailed displays that were very interesting. There was detailed information about prehistoric animals and dinosaurs from the area. You would not expect to find a museum with this much detail in the rural Midwest. The museum had assorted fossils, skeletons, and animatronics.
The staff were amazing! They are willing to talk to you about anything. I learned more about dinosaurs and fossils in my time today than any other dinosaur museum I've been to. Walter and Heather, the owners, are truly passionate and know tons about the area's dinosaurs. One of the employees, Joel, was a wealth of information and happily went from talking about the teeth of meat eating dinosaurs, to the differences between the tyrannosaurus rex and nano tyrannosaurus, to showing children different prehistoric fossils under the microscopes.
If you have kids, they will enjoy it too. The animatronics are great, but a lot of focus was placed on children's exhibits. There were a couple of fossils that people could touch (always a plus with children). There was both an indoor and an outdoor dig table, a topography sand table, computer displays, and fossils with microscopes for more hands-on exploration.

Read moreWhat an awesome place! I've been to TONS of fossil museums since I was a little kid and this one stands out. They've got more ORIGINAL fossils on display than anyone. Where else will you see original raptor material?
Every single staff member I met and talked to really knew their stuff and were great at explaining everything!
There's a preparation lab where you can watch technicians working on cleaning up the bones.
This museum punches way above its weight class. Even the big museums in big cities don't deliver an up-close experience like this.
Definitely worth a dedicated trip. Take extra time, get the tour and talk to the staff. They aren't just giving tours- they really do the work. Very glad I...
Read moreWhat a great museum! The home base of the terrific PaleoAdventures, Dinosaurs of the Hell Creek Museum provides an excellent glimpse into the animals that roamed the hills of South Dakota 65 million years ago.
Really a must stop if you find yourself in the Black Hills. This museum is great for kids and adults. The thoughtful exhibits showcase fossils of the region many of which were locally discovered by the museum founder.
Don’t pass up the opportunity to visit! The museum is new this year and certain to evolve (pun intended). If I find myself back in the Black Hills again, I will be sure to put Dinosaurs of the Hell Creek Museum on my “must...
