If you are going to ride/walk this trail for any length do research beforehand! On 3/19/19 my plan was to ride my bicycle on the trail from Clewiston to where it intersects highway 76. There were so many construction projects that blocked out entire large sections of the path. After coming upon 4 of these (pushing my bike up and down the levy to get around) I was getting exhausted and finally decided to just go down and ride the shoulder of the highway. Also, there is absolutely no shelter from the elements (wind, sun, rain) on this trail. And, because it runs along the top of the levy the winds can be stronger. And, a good portion of the trail that I rode was paved but the sections between have gravel with large rolling rocks making it difficult to navigate a bicycle (might be better if you’re walking). I don’t want to discourage anyone from walking/biking this trail, there are beautiful panoramic views, lots of wildlife, separation from traffic, and smooth riding surface when you’re not on the gravel or in a construction zone. All I’m saying is do some research...

It’s a flat dirt road that runs all the way around the lake (pretty far, over 100 miles I think). Bugs can be bad in the summer, and this is completely exposed (no shade), so keep that in mind for longer treks and hot weather! Absolutely recommend...
Read moreNice smooth scenic trail that follows the shoreline of Lake Okeechobee. We did an out and back ride from Lakeport to Moore Haven for a total of 30 miles. There are no services along this section of trail, so go prepared. We passed only 6 other riders on the trail. Go on a cloudy day as there isn't really any shade...
