2018 UPDATE- Destroying South West Florida’s gulf coast and economy. The sugar industry in Florida is known as Big Sugar. They use Lake Okeechobee (Lake O) as their personal reservoir. When they have to much water, big sugar pumps it back into Lake O. This water is fertilized and filled with nutrients and that pollutes the water of Lake O. Then when the water Levels of the lake get high they release this polluted water to the East and West coast by way of the St Lucie, and Caloosahatchee Rivers. This practice turns the rivers into a dark polluted brown iced tea color. Some years the pollution is so bad toxic algae forms and kills sea life. In the summer of 2018 this practice has led to thick toxic algae building up along the rivers and destroying the sea life along the way. Especially on the Caloosahatchie River into the Gulf of Mexico where thousands of fish, manatees, turtles, sea life, and birds are dying, and washing ashore from the toxic water Plus the millions of fish that died and sank to the bottom of the water. The health dept. won't comment on what this toxic algae does to humans, even though the air smells worse than a sewer back up and people are reporting health problems from the air. Thousands of people have been laid off from work because the tourists have left. Governor Rick Scott called for a State of Emergency and this led to a meeting from the Army Corp of Engineers in Cape Coral Florida where the spokesperson said they would rather send the toxic water to the people of Southwest Florida rather then send it back to big sugar. This is currently killing everything. Governor Rick Scotts campaign is funded by Big Sugar, and people want to see him in jail for killing all the sea life and businesses. Millions most likely Billions of tourist dollars are being lost because of the toxic water. The water is supposed to flow South to the Everglades as it has for thousands of years, but big sugar has changed that, and all of the projects to save the Everglades from the big sugar water diversion have failed along with the Government. The toxic water is still...
Read moreBiggest lake in the state! It's a amazing place for all things outdoor, including fishing and seasonal hunting. Or just sightseeing and bird watching. It's a freshwater lake with miles of marsh lands on the exterior and deep-water water in the interior. Because of its size and has its own microclimate and can be very different out on the Lake compared to on the shore. For the middle like you can use a traditional boat but to get into some of the marsh land areas there's lots of grass and you would need a mud boat or an airboat. Going out on to the lake navigation is very important because it is easy to get turned around out there and because of all the Tall Grass you don't always have a visual point...
Read moreLove airboating on this lake. Lake Okeechobee is the 2nd largest natural lake in the United States. It’s well known for fishing too. I love all the little break areas for the Airboaters to use. We generally make a stop at one spot called the Tin Shed and have a picnic whenever we are out. You can see lots of different birds, some alligators, sometimes turtles too. The Tilapia beds are easy to spot. Can’t wait to go out at night to see all the red eyes...
