Nice orchard and it's close to home. Kids enjoyed it. The tractor takes you to farther parts of the orchard, but we picked apples and then rode the tractor around the loop afterwards for fun. You need a ladder or pole this time of year since most of the trees are all picked over from ground level to about 9ft-10ft. We couldn't find any poles so we had to use ladders and a small child lol. Some apple strains I haven't heard of before seemed to be out completely like some of the Mac hybrids and "Rambo". There are crates full of good apples sorted by strain already picked on your way out of the orchard, but only a few options to choose from like gala, Mac's, Cortland and a few others. They have tons of seating outside like picnic tables and rocking chairs. There are giant connect four games, corn hole and table top games. The cider donuts were good, airy and sweet. The pumpkins and cider were a bit more expensive than Carter Hill but the cider here is made fresh to order and probably worth the extra. The donuts were a little better too. The barn full of pumpkins were very well organized and had a nice aesthetic inside and as you walked in. There were lots of pesty yellow jackets which should be expected at an orchard, but just a mention for those who are allergic, however they were not out to sting. We shooed plenty away and one even ended up tangled in my hair without incident. Plenty of porta John's and parking. You purchase the apple bags by the huge flag near the orchard which come in $35, $15 and $8...
Read moreWe were blown away by our visit to Stone Mountain Farm over Columbus Day weekend.
The Apples: There had to have been over two dozen varieties of apples to pick from. There is something here for everyone.
The Experience: The Rolfe family really knows how to make you feel welcome. So kind and thoughtful. Joseph drove us out to the apple trees and brought us back. He described several different types of apples, explaining the differences between them.
The orchard is immaculate and beautiful. They have signs letting you know which apples are ripe and best for picking, and which ones aren't quite ready yet. Everything is clearly marked so that you can quickly find the types of apples that you want.
The People: Local business at its finest. The Rolfe family bought the farm in 2009 and the orchard part of it has been up and running for about 2 years, I believe.
You get the feeling that customer satisfaction is a top priority to them and it shows. Great place to bring your kids.
In short, a first-rate orchard. We will...
Read moreGreat place to pick your own apples or stop by the stand out front where they have apples ready to go. Before heading into the at least 5 types of apples, at 50 plus rows, stop by the Food Truck and grab a coffee or cider. The apples are grown low enough that kids can pick them standing on the ground. Each row is clearly labeled what apples they are and have signs telling you if ready or not. Pumpkins sold at a really reasonable price. BEFORE YOU LEAVE make sure to go back to the food truck and get Fresh Apple...
