Note: We were at the park a few weeks ago and there were signs for the trails. Still did not see a sign warning about alligators.
This park, as nature is, wild...with an added bird sculpture and few park benches, is seven miles south on highway 133 from 74 to the entrance. The sign sneaks up, so go slow...turn. It is a winding .75 to the main parking area. The road is rocky/sandy and wide enough for two vehicles. The landing area is a short walk from the main parking. We did see cars parked near the outlook and kayak dock and the signs said unloading only, but there were areas that were away from the unloading signs with cars parked so we were left unsure if parking is allowed. The dock area is built for unloading kayaks. Town Creek is VERY picturesque. The tide was rushing in when we were there. Awesome habitat for alligators and other wild things. There are paths along the creek that are very satisfying. Not that wide but wide enough. There are also other paths, but we did not go down, because we were unsure were they let out. We looked for a directory of the paths but we did not find one. There is a building near the parking area, but we did not explore, probably a sign map there. This is a very nice park. My wife commented that it is very spiritual. Very quiet. We could hear the nature divas. This is a sign of a very good park. This is our first visit, we highly recommend a visit to this park but would recommend going in a group or certainly with someone else. The detractor for me was signage. The Belville River Walk park has a very good sign warning about alligators, I'd really suggest that kind of sign more so for this park. This is a perfect habitat...
Read moreVisited the park to ride the mountain bike trails. Rode everything and ended up with almost 9 miles. Easy to follow the routes. Plenty of curves and short hills with good use of the terrain to keep the riding interesting. You won't find long hill climbs here, but don't mistake these for just flat, boring trails. The twisty turns offer the chance to practice your leans, flicks, and speed control. There are several rock gardens and elevated boardwalk challenges on the advanced trail. You can make this as much of a workout as you want, maybe more so than trails in hillier areas because you're not going to get much chance to cheat and rest on any long downhill runs! Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area or passing nearby. I visited in early April, so the heat and humidity weren't bad and there were few bugs. Would likely be much different in full-on summertime weather. The trail builders are actively working to expand the trails, so there are more...
Read moreThis trail was so fun to ride on!
There are lots of roots coursing over the trails so it’s definitely a bumpy ride so hang on tight! There are a couple different trails at the park and they are all out and back loops I believe! Depending on recent rainfall there may be standing water over the road to get to some of the trails but it’s nothing you can’t go around. Helmets are definitely recommended.
While I was riding it was hot and I was sweating which made my hands slick, so this combination mixed with the roots made my handle bars kind of slippery. I had to keep wiping my hands, so might want to consider some riding gloves, this might also provide stabilization for the wrists since they get kind of beat up from the ride!
There are man made obstacles on the courses which include wooden bridges and wooden jumps but also little natural cliffs along the trail, likely...
