About a mile south of congested highway 74, past the ABC store, along a very busy highway 133 directly across from Belville Elementary, you will find two well constructed riverwalks. One longer than the other, each solidly constructed at opposite ends of the park that face the Brunswick River. The longer riverwalk is delightfully surrounded by marsh grass. Its entrance is located close to the front of the park, in back of a fish/produce stand, that is in operation on the weekends. There is a fishing pier with good length, with a fish cleaning station that was newly installed that has running water. This quaint, well maintained local park offers a riverside memorial to the brave fallen but not forgotten of our country along with more than an ample well lit parking area, with lined spaces, a boat ramp, two large playground areas with installed permanent equipment, a small stage, an open building facing the river designated for education with seating, a nature walking path leading to and from the longer riverwalk, adequate toilet facilities, covered areas, picnic tables, trash cans and open areas with a scattering of moss covered trees on south side of the parking area and deep growth of trees/natural area on the way the side where the longer riverwalk is located. The slight detractors for me are the road noise while walking on parts of the longer riverwalk that run parallel to highway 133. Also, be advised, there is a short turning lane into the park, but the long steady stream of vehicles on highway 133 makes it somewhat difficult to enter and leave the park. I'd suggest a flashing caution light in front of the park entrance to help entering and leaving the park more safely. This park is well maintained, offers a good walk along the river, it's free and well...
Read moreI have two young kids and we visit this playground pretty often. Northern Regional Park in Castle Hayne and Greenfield Lake in Wilmington were my go-to playgrounds, but after moving to Leland I needed to find something closer. This is my favorite playground in the area. It's not completely clear cut like some other playgrounds so there's a good amount of shade. There are areas to play for my 6 year old as well as my 2 year old. We always bring a snack so we can find a shady spot and eat. There are nice walking trails and beautiful views of the river. We've had to use the bathroom there on multiple occasions, and it's always been clean. One of my girl's favorite things to do is walk further back where they have a second older playground. There is a grassy area near there that is like a small hill. They both LOVE running down it. I always know when we come home they've tuckered themselves out and are ready to...
Read moreMy two dear nieces took me to visit the Bellville River walk this past Saturday. It was a wonderful experience! We met commissioner Joe who have us a personal tour explaining the history and science within the park. I know the people of NC are very proud of the park and its support of education to its children and future. Not only does it hold unique fascinating history, science and nature, it is a peaceful place for families to spend precious times together. Dad's were on the pier with their small kids fishing, children on the playgrounds, birthday parties under the picnic areas, gentlemen kayaking, even some with their dogs. Even lots of pet owners enjoying strolls with their pets. This is truly a place I intend to visit many more times. It is well worth the drive from Loris, SC. Thank you Commissioner Joe for the tour and helping NC residents have such a unique...
