I live 2 minutes away from the lake I hardly go there and why? The Army Corps of Engineers always has Longhorn closed that's the free ramp on the lake it's never open last year I tried eight times to get on the lake and it was closed water levels were normal they always have an excuse in addition they have some nice hunting and on the property however they don't do anything like preference points on their Lottery to hunt deer. What always ends up seems to happen and I've been tracking this for quite a while and I have not got to the space in the last 3 years the same people seem to get it you know who they are dot-dot-dot I've taken pictures and have combined them with other years. Guy that runs the place is rude he was a warrior and hates hunting because he said to me personally he has seen too much death and blood. I was debating whether to put this on because I'll never be picked ever again but everybody needs to know but there's a lot that could be changed at that office on Benbrook Lake and Longhorn Beach. A lot of other people there are very very nice don't get me wrong but it's like the FBI people that hold the power control 99% of what happens on there and the people that help you are just fantastic you know like the front line. I think they need a complete change on how they operate that area of...
Read moreGreat area. There are quite a few different areas of the lake and parks around it. Some of the less than enthusiastic reviews are a surprise. I go mainly to the parks for my dogs walk. If it's time of day or some of the closed campground areas, it's a great place for the get some off leash time, which is against the law. However the spirit of law is so dogs don't remain under control and don't bother people, dogs or wildlife. We've bumped into other people, and dogs. Everyone leashes until back up, chat for a minute, unleashes and go about their day. The rangers have reminded more once or twice to make sure they are under control and NOT chase the deer or other wildlife. Always cordial and understanding that dogs need to stretch their legs. Somedays the parks are completely empty. We can do 3 or 4 miles of walking/running. In the warmer months, the dogs love wading in the water to escape the 108° summer days. My dogs love love the hot weather. The only issue is these fringe areas of the parks and shores do get little to much litter. It's always people that come in and leave behind the cans/food bags etc. Always next to a pile of rocks that was obviously made to be a seat. Little disappointing that people can't take their trash 50 feet back to parking lot full of trash cans...
Read moreLet me start with only negative & that is the water is low of which you cannot fault the facility only Mother Nature. The park has large variety of lots for primitive camping tents to Class A. Note that some of the tent sites have the best location & view of lake. Perfect with a cabana covered pinic table & grill/ fire. We fall in the middle with our traveler trailer & my partner has more than 20 years of camping. So when recommended we make another reservation when The Texas Heat has cooled I did just that. It’s quite, unassuming, great for biking hiking or just relaxing. Bug spray highly recommended & please they do not have sewage hookups at the individual lots but going to drain takes was easy with dual lanes so we didn’t wait 45 minutes in Sunday to get on road. Guarded gates entering & existing which assures visitors traffic at best are fellow campers.Paved not with crushed rock but actual poured concrete. Refer to Recreational.gov for detail information about slopes, shade and other valuable information. The location seems secluded, but in fact you can have fine dining within a ten...
