River Canyon Park itself isn't the main attraction here. The park is a minimalistic half acre of pines and grasses with a winding paver path and a few picnic tables near the canyon rim.
But towards the river and behind the park is the real draw: a canal maintenance road that---despite the Private Road signs---provides easy public access for bikes, walking and dogs on leash along the Deschutes River downstream for about a mile. There it connects to theĀ South Canyon ReachĀ of the Deschutes River Trail, a 3-mile loop typically accessed from the Farewell Bend Park area.
The service road provides Public Works access to service irrigation project infrastructure. But for the rest of us it provides a wide, well-maintained gravel road for an easy walk or ride along the Deschutes...

The only trail I wanted to walk on was locked and only for utility vehicles and it's the only road that leads near the river otherwise you're 140ft+ from the nearest sight of it. Not exactly a family picnic park either no decent space to have a picnic and there's no dog bags if you have a dog, it's mostly natural so there's not a ton over very green grass.
