Easy to get to, 2 areas for parking with restrooms and a couple 4 table pavilions, no running water so prepare accordingly. Not crowded at all but LOTS or room to spread out and numerous launches for kayaks and a marina area for trailers boats. Wide paved 5.2 mile trail goes all the way around the lake, adjustments can be made for shorter distances using the Ida Street Bridge. Read moreFlanagan Lake is situated between Fort Street, Ida Street, and State Street. This is the largest man made lake in the Omaha/Bennington Nebraska area with a hiking/biking trail of approximately 5.2 miles. There are bathrooms spots in certain areas (close to the public picnic areas). At the apex of the trail, the hiker will be met with water on either side where the sunset is very soothing at an evening hour. Canoes and boats are welcome for a relaxing time on the water. We saw Forster's terns, a bald eagle, a couple of juvenile eagles, kingfishers, red-headed woodpeckers, and lots of purple martins, herons, geese, and ducks while kayaking the lake in July. The north playground area is a great place to set up your telescope for night sky gazing. My only complaint is that I wish that the lake was surrounded by trees instead of housing...
