I waited for a very warm day to make the trip to Rocky Gap. My only desire was to see the beach and do some early rockhounding. I was not disappointed.

Currently, I visited Rocky Gap again. 5/18/25 There was a warm breeze and much anticipation to drive an hour to visit this lovely rock filled beach to go rockhounding. Very few people were there (7 pm). I walked down the ramp, chatting with a wonderful lady who arrived at the same time in the hopes of finding some beach glass. As we got to the bottom of the ramp, we both looked to our right then to the left; each of us taking our own path. Within three strides, I turned to her, saying in surprise, "Where did all the rocks go?" Turning back to me in surprise as well, she replied, "The beach was full of rocks just three days ago when she was there, the recent storm must have taken them back out with the tide" Needless to say, I was very disappointed 😞 but still had a very nice walk on a very sandy, clean beach. I will...

If you have a passion for collecting colorful rocks, beach glass, and intricate fossils, or perhaps want to avoid a crowd Rocky Gap is for you. Overlooking Lake Michigan from a bluff in Benton Harbor Township, Rocky Gap County Park provides a wonderful place to enjoy the Lake Michigan shoreline. The lower park provides easy access to the sandy beaches, and the upper part presents spectacular panoramic views from the Lake Michigan Overlook Deck. Visitors can also watch the waves from the bluffs in the upper Park which also has benches, picnic tables, and a picnic shade shelter. I have enjoyed a myriad of beaches along the shoreline of Lake Michigan but Rocky Gap has always had a special place...

The beach itself is pretty nice, lots of room. Parking is an absolute nightmare, my family, and I went there the day after Fourth of July, and it was totally packed. Half of the cars were parked illegally, but out of the way and not at all obstructing traffic. I thankfully was able to save mine and other family members cars from being towed and ticketed, but several other beach goers’ cars had been towed and they were left stranded. Not a beach worth going to if you have to fight for parking or risk getting your car towed during a busy holiday weekend where a lot people take time to relax and...

A wonderful beach that is truly a hidden gem. It's covered with pebbles. It's got the feel of a private beach away from the crowds. There is limited parking but it's free. There are restrooms but they are not kept up well...so be prepared for that. Overall it's a wonderful place to watch a sunset. Signs are posted that dogs are not allowed, however there were dogs on the beach both times that we were there...so in that sense it's dog friendly. The surf can be a little rough so keep your kids close.

My favorite stop during our vacation. Short walk ( ramp) down to the beach. Had sand and rocks at the water line. We found so many cool rocks and even some sea glass. There were some areas of shade at the Dune line which was nice. They do have toilets but they are the outhouse type ones that my kids hate, but better than nothing. Someone left a bin of cute rocks they had painted with a sign to take one. Small parking lot. No cell service ( att).
