Jason Aldean has a song thats called Dirt Road Anthem, and that's all we could think about as we tried to enjoy Pointe Mouillee. Literally everything that you take out of your truck or car will be caked with dirt road dust within minutes. Not a deal breaker for us, as long as there is good fishing...but...the fishing 🎣 there was terrible...unless you want to catch 4" bluegills all day. I couldn't believe how many people were actually keeping 4" bluegills or 8" bass. The area has been fished out because of this. As you enter the area, you quickly go from a paved road into a dirt road and the parking lot on the left only holds about 15 cars and trucks and it has a small boat launch... and it's about 2 blocks away from the fishing tubes (aka culvert pipes) and the 14" wide (no joke) fishing pier. The water is only about 2 feet deep near the culvert pipes. Lake Erie is on the right side with 8 more tubes and with the back side of Davis Besse nearby. Fishing was terrible on both sides. There are about 10 "tubes" as they are identified on their map, 8 are smaller about 4 feet tall sticking out of the water, and 2 are about 10 feet tall sticking out of the water on the left side. No picnic tables, no playground, no restrooms, no grills, with lots of dangerous places for children or dogs to fall into the water. We also tried fishing a stretch of the Huron River which also runs through this game area, with no bites. By the time you leave, your truck, your tires, your truck mats, your clothes, your shoes, your fishing poles, your hair, and your cooler with be caked with dirt road dust. There are many wide open spaces which kick up the dust. See my attached pics for a map of this location. The workers (they work 12 hour shifts) and the game wardens that we ran into were really nice, they didn't ask to see our fishing licenses. Closes at 11 pm, reopens at 4 am. A mountain bike would be great here. Lots of walking trails. Hunting is also available at this location- during certain times of the year.

Beautiful area but unfortunately people disrespect it by leaving litter and garbage dumped. I attempt to go pretty regularly to pick up the plastic and other litter that many seemingly dump all over. I can’t beg you enough to please bring a trash bag of your own to take your trash with you or even pick up along your own adventures. Wish people would take more care of this place as it is truly gorgeous and one of the hidden gems of our area. Fisherman seem to be the worst with leaving trash and other litter, can’t tell how many times I’ve cleaned up after these people. Which is pretty remarkable to me since they consider themselves “outdoorsmen” but behave in such a manor. Hunters aren’t much better since I oftentimes pick up their shotgun shells left strewn about just as much as fishing line. I love to fish myself but come on people, we can really do better and am doing my part, just a little help would really make a difference. Remember the saying “take only memories and leave only footprints”!! Especially with how our wild areas are becoming fewer and further in between, I’d ask everyone to take care of it as best as we can to preserve it for other generations to enjoy in the future.

Great place because it's up to YOU what you do. If it's solitude and nature you like, this place is ideal! Several different areas to visit: marsh, shoreline, overlooks, parks, fishing dikes, ideal birding and more. Exploration is what the place was made for; I'd try coming back several times. This is a break from the standard 'park visit' (although you can do that right down the street) and a bit more exciting. I recently learned that this is a very special place in terms of the birds that visit and things of the like. If you're looking to introduce your kids to nature, this is easily the best place in Southeast Michigan to give them a bit of an education. Frogs, rare birds, deer, more.

I used to love hunting here and still do somewhat. if you duck or goose hunt this place is great since they cater to you type of hunters. the problem is that this place doesn't care about us deer hunters. the dnr plants corn and beans but closes sections of for permits only hunting for waterfowl only. tons of flat land the can do this to but they choose to do this in areas of wood patches included. deer and small game hunters are getting screwed out here

after this mornings deer hunt im dropping this atea to 1 star. the dnr really need to change the name from state game area to just waterfowl area. every where i use to hunt is now flooded and appears that this is how its going to be from now on. the areas that are not flooded are overcrowded. the duck hunters don't care if they are 65 yards away from you even after they see you setup in the tree before they even started to walk out. hunters just don't respect...
