One of Meriden's untapped hiking destination, with a backstory about how Lamentation Mountain was named. Located in the North East corner of Meriden, it is part of the Guifredda Park area, next to Hunters golf course. To reach Lamentation Mountain on foot, follow the fire service road along the power line right of way. The road will lead you past a boat launch area, and continues North to where it ascends. A foot trail bifercates to the right, taking you around the lake on a "white blazed" trail. Stay left/straight and begin your ascent. You are now climbing Lamentation Mountain. A footpath will appear to your left,with some beautiful scenery expected. Long ago, a child was missing and presumed lost in the general area, many years ago. The father of the lost child is said to have broken down emotionally at the peak of this mount, and after Lamenting to his Lord and Savior of his changed ways, returned home to discover that his sleepy son at the fishing hole had awoken and hurried home to avoid causing his parents distress. Read moreToday I decided to do Mount Lamitation and let me tell you what a beautiful view from atop. I parked at Guiffrida park in Meriden and filled my map from the alltrails app. I started down the trail and went up to mount lamentation which has such a beautiful view from a top. The breeze was actually amazing up they are because it was so windy and just so peaceful. There is also a camping area that you can pitch a tent from up top. Then I decided to head over to giuffrida Park. And see the views from over there . This is definitely a recommended place to check out if you have not already you will absolutely love this. They were doing construction where the quarry is but other than that you can still view and take photos...
Read moreMost websites say that you can follow the blue Mattabessett trail for a loop, but if there is a loop on Lamentation Mt it is hard to find. I parked at the Spruce Brook Dr trailhead and followed blue blazes along a muddy trail to the top of Lamentation Mt and eventually turned around without finding a loop back. There are some views of Silver Lake through the trees, but if you're looking for a nice overlook, and a loop trail, maybe hike around Giuffrida...
