I love how tucked away this trail is....It's like a Local's secret between Placitas and ABQ. Take Forest Road 445 (when heading to the trail from Placitas), but only if you have a high clearance vehicle and/or 4WD. When it snows and melts, it can be a bit sticky. Be sure to pay attention to border fences and always keep an eye out above you when entering the canyon. This is cougar country, and there are reports of wild sheep/people/bears in the area. Pack plenty of water, water sources are scarce depending...

Yes the road in may test your Subaru a bit, but it's entirely worth it to reach this gem of a trail across the face of the sandias. The southern end at tramway is overly well known, while this end languishes with a few visitors per day. Access interior basins with annual streams and ponderosa forests, while the huge granite faces of the scarp above unfold before you. You can turn around anywhere for a great hike, but the dividing ridge is 9 mi round trip, and 2600 ft gain, making it a strong moderate...

I really like this entrance. This side gives you access to the "tougher" side of Piedra Lisa Trail or many of the other trails here. I frequently loop Piendra Lisa Trail to Del Agua in either direction also. There is a bathroom and trashcans at this trailhead but no dog bog station. I usually have a plethora of dog bags anyway so it's not a problem for me, lol. It's a well traveled trail with humans, dogs and mountain bikes. This trailhead can access many of the other trails and is great for out and...

Did the Piedra Lisa trail up to Del Agua. Great hike with wonderful views but the snow on the rocks coming down made it a bit challenging. Definitely want to bring some hiking poles (at least for us lesser coordinated people). Road in was a bit rough but didn’t really have any problems but I would avoid it when wet.
