Ovoka Farm is much more than a farm, it's a unique destination. I came across of this farm incidentally, when researching where to spend our anniversary. We love food, and the idea of visiting a wagyu beef farm (with a subsequent dinner) looked interesting, so we booked a private tour. That turned out to be much more than just a tour, and definitely much more than we expected. Jessica and Roy, two chief executives of the farm, met us and treated us as dear friends. They gave us a tour of the farm and the property (which is huge, in excess of 700 acres), including the mansion (which is a beautifully restored and expanded early 19th century house), let us pet the animals (to the extent the animals would allow :-)), set down with us at a fireplace on a hill overlooking the farm and surrounding rolling hills. They showed us the log cabin available for guests, which was made of reclaimed wood and has very warm feeling, is quite comfortable and well-equipped. It can fit a family, but is affordable even for a couple. There are beautiful hiking trails around the property, ponds full of fish (the fishing rods are provided), and, of course, the farm itself. There are also several outstanding restaurants in the area (such as Red House Tavern, where Jessica booked a table for us at our request) that serve the Ovoka Farm beef.    Read moreWe met the host Jessica today at Ovoka Farm. I experienced the best hospitality and the BEST wagyu beef when I later returned home. If you are looking for the best cuts of meat available in Virginia this is the place! Jessica showed me a plethora of amazing cuts and even sausages and hot dogs the farm had to offer. Follow the signs right off rt.50 and you will not be disappointed. I am excited to go back for more in the future. Quite amazed this place was a great find for Sunday afternoon following up after the Double Toll Gate flea market. Treat yourself you will be glad you did. Sent me home with coffee, donuts and the best steak I ever tasted....
Read moreWe met with Jesica and got a great overview of the farm and how they raise the beef cattle. It was quite the education! Anyway, we purchased a Waygu tri-tip which we grilled tonight (using the indirect grilling method, and we did not marinade the beef). All I can say is WOW! The beef was as tender and flavorful as we have had in high end restaurants we have eaten. Albeit we live in Arizona, when we visit Haymarket VA in the future, we will make Ovaka Farms our first stop. Nicely done Ovaka Farms!
