Always enjoy our visits to Betterton. It isn't a huge beach, but has enough space to spread out and feels clean and well maintained. The bathrooms are nice and include showers for rinsing off. You'll want to wear foot protection in the water since it is rocky, and expect quite a bit of seaweed and the occasional dead fish floating by. The water is the right temperature during the summer, and pretty calm. It gets deep quickly enough that you can swim, but not so deep that you can't stand if you are looking to just hang out and cool off. There is no shade on the beach so bring an umbrella. There is some shade on a grassy area with picnic tables. Great alternative to the longer drive to the atlantic beaches if you're okay with a bay-based beach instead...

They have a boat ramp. Fee for trailer but not sure about kayaks? I launched mine and paddled to turner creek to see american lotus flower. No shade on the beach. They have grills and picnic tables. They sell food but didn't go inside....
