The hike to the waterfall was fairly short and easy. The description says 0.4 miles, however, we clocked it at about 0.35 miles roundtrip. The steps are convenient and the path at the top, while not paved or even, was wide enough to comfortably traverse. The waterfall is not immediately visible until you first get on the small bridge (it’s on a bend). That said, the pictures do not do justice to the waterfall – it is a beautiful waterfall. It is much more impressive in person, which is something difficult to capture in the 2d representation of a picture. The bridge is well placed to take pictures, and everything seems otherwise well maintained. During the middle of the week, there was still a light-to-moderate amount of people, which means this could get quite congested during weekends and peak seasons. The parking lot can accommodate about 20 vehicles (see picture) and has three portajohns right before the stairs. There is plenty of signage on the approach to let you know you are getting close. There is very little reception, and almost no internet reception, so make sure to pre-load your map...
Read moreA nice set of falls that requires a little hike to get to but offers a nice unique view. This is not in the Rocky Mountain National Park. The road that you drive to arrive at this location goes by a school so please drive the speed limit. At the time that I visited this site, my navigation app did not have the roads within a mile of the falls so we had to pay attention to the signs. The good thing is that there are several signs that lead you to the site. Parking is limited to about 15 parking spots directly in front of the steps. There seems to be an old campground that you may be able to park in but I did not want to take a chance. The path continues along the mountain for another few hundred yards to some rock steps and a bridge that spans the river. There is a bench at the top that will allow people to rest. The falls are very unique and beautiful with several streams instead of one large stream coming down the mountain. It is a very nice site and different from other falls that we saw on our trip. I would recommend it for visitors...
Read moreNestled in the foothills of NC, on the Cherokee Indian Reservation is Mingo Falls. A moderate 0.3 mile hike up a long stairway and a short trail to a breathtaking almost 200ft waterfall! It's well worth the trip but not without some helpful tips! Pay attention to road signs or your GPS will lead you astray!! Turn around, go back and take a right!!!! Do not go down this road. After turning right, it's 1.7 miles to the parking area for Mingo Falls. There are port-o-potties available and ample parking. Next important note; when leaving the falls DO NOT take a right!! There should be a sign here too!! If you go right you must be prepared to lose cell service as you climb 3 miles up a one-way switchback dirt road to the top of the Blue Ridge Parkway!! In certain weather conditions I'm guessing 4wd is helpful. Unless you are prepared to be stranded DO NOT go right!!!! Follow the main roads back to civilization and be safely on your way!! Like, Follow and Share for more great...
