An excellent free museum. It's a small, charming, eclectic museum that has a combination of Indian history, settler history, local history, and random artifacts. I liked that I learned things about Indian culture and that they had many real Indian artifacts and that they highlighted the specific person that those artifacts belonged to.
Eclectic is the key theme though - don't expect to get exhaustive details on any single subject area. Ranging from Calamity Jane's poker game pieces, to Wilfred Brimley's authentic historical chuck wagon, to Red Cloud's deerskins, and an extensive collection of breech loading cap and ball rifles (of which the cartridge size is rarely mentioned), it's a fun place.

Read moreWow!!! Just WOW!!! Please read this review if you are even considering to visit Billings, MT. This place is truly the best hidden gem that we found and has SOOO many artifacts and history about all of Montana and the area. If you see the Google Maps you will see just a tiny log cabin but there is a hidden lower level with some of the best collections of Native American artifacts and guns I have ever seen. Plan to spend at least 30 minutes but you can walk through the parking lot while you wait for your flight home. Best part . . . The people running it are so nice. It is free but they exist on donations so please help them keep this...
Read moreThe location was difficult to get to - we went around several times as the signs were confusing. The road leading up to the museum was shared with the airport's paid parking and if you miss the turn, you need to exit entirely and start over.
The inside of the museum was very clean and well put together chronologically. The male staff was welcoming and informative on the tidbits of the museum (first floor). The second floor (dwnstrs) was surprisingly spacious with numerous collections - mainly about Chief Joe Medicine Crow.
